Jessy Wellmer had to take a lot of criticism at the European Football Championship in the summer.
Now she is the ARD face at the Olympics.
Who is the moderator actually?
Munich – All Olympic fans will see her face particularly often between February 4th and 20th, 2022: Jessy Wellmer will be the ARD presenter during the Olympic Games in Beijing through the winter sports day.
The 42-year-old shouldn't be a stranger to most sports fans.
For many years, the sports journalist has moderated various formats for public TV channels, including the "Sportschau".
At the 2021 European Football Championship, she and expert Bastian Schweinsteiger formed a duo that polarized television viewers.
Jessy Wellmer: Criticism because of the pizza saying
At the time, she caused a stir with a rather flat pizza saying: "Is Italy already in the round of 16 with half a pizza?" She asked amused and then had to take a lot of criticism.
Anyway, the EM appearances with Schweinsteiger were characterized by breakdowns and unfortunate moments.
Among other things, Wellmer was accused of going into the farewell interview with Jogi Löw unprepared.

But who is Jessy Wellmer actually?
Her very own moderation style certainly stems from her origins.
Wellmer comes from the north, she was born in the small town of Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Today she lives in Berlin-Charlottenburg and is married to the journalist and biologist Sven Siebert.
She has two children with the 57-year-old – she does not reveal much more about her private life.
As a child, she had to cope with a heavy blow of fate: her brother died of cancer.

Her steep career in front of the camera came rather unexpectedly, as she once
revealed to the
Schweriner Zeitung .
"I used to be quite shy and the idea of being in front of a camera was completely alien to me," she admitted.
There is nothing left of that today, their performances are almost always sovereign.
She actually wanted to study psychology, but in the end she completed her diploma in social and business communication.
