The German Olympic team can be happy about the first medal at the Winter Games in Beijing.

Ski jumper Katharina Althaus took silver on the normal hill.

Four years ago in Pyeongchang, the 25-year-old also finished second.

The Slovenian Ursa Bogataj won the Olympics.

Bronze went to Nika Kriznar, also a Slovenian.

Women's ski jumping was only part of the Olympic program for the third time, and for the third time a German was on the podium.

Carina Vogt won gold at the premiere in 2014.

Althaus started as one of the favorites, she is second in the overall World Cup - behind the Austrian Martina Kramer.

But the top favorite missed her start due to a positive corona test.
