Summary: Manchester United - Middlesbrough 1: 1 (Sport 1)

Cristiano Ronaldo is trying to prevent the New York Times from publishing more than 400 documents that have reached the newspaper's editorial office, related to the alleged rape case in which he was previously charged.

According to The Mirror, the Portuguese star is currently waging a legal campaign in the United States against the newspaper, in an attempt to prevent the publication of a long and detailed investigation in a few weeks.

The hearing on the publication of the documents will take place next week, and Ronaldo's lawyers will try to prevent the publication of the investigation, which is based on documents that they claim were obtained in illegal ways.

The Las Vegas Police Department that handled the case holds hundreds of documents related to the affair, some of which have even been leaked to the network in the past by the Football Leaks website and Der Spiegel magazine.

Among other things, a document was presented proving that Ronaldo paid the complainant, former model Katherine Mayorga, millions of dollars as "silence fees".

According to Ronaldo and his lawyers, the documents in question include embarrassing personal details, which are of no public interest.

Their publication, they claim, will cause further distress to the 37-year-old star, "whose name and image were damaged in any case as a result of the affair, even though it was discovered that there was no criminal basis to accuse him."

As you may recall, the case in question dealt with a complaint filed by Maiorga in 2018, according to which nine years earlier Ronaldo had raped her by force in a hotel room in Las Vegas.

The alleged rape took place a few weeks before Ronaldo's move from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009, in a deal that was at the time the most expensive of all time.

Majorga said she was attacked by the Portuguese star at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. She claimed that after spending the evening with him while on vacation with her family, he asked her and her friend to join him and his friends in the hot tub.

When she went to change clothes, she was surprised to see that the star came to her for a naked shower, and asked her to touch his penis and have sex with him: "When I said I was not ready, he started begging me to touch him and put his organ in my mouth."

Documentation of Ronaldo and Maiorga from the day the alleged rape occurred

Ronaldo has argued all along that there has been consensual sex with Majorga, and developments in the court case have partially backed up his claims.

Last October, a court in Las Vegas recommended that the case be closed, and Mayurga waived.

At the same time, in Der Spiegel it was previously reported that Ronaldo made great efforts to whitewash the affair, left evidence and even attached secret surveillance to Majorga.

The affair has continued to accompany Ronaldo in recent years as well.

For example, during his re-appearance in the Manchester United uniform last September, a protest was organized against him and during the game a plane flew over Old Trafford Stadium with the caption "We believe in Katherine Majorga".
