Swede Nils van der Poel won the gold medal in the 5,000m speed skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics today.
Van der Poel, the world champion, won the gold medal after two years away from the speed skating competitions following the 2018 South Korean Olympics.
Van der Poel set an Olympic record in 6 minutes and 8.84 seconds.
Dutchman Patrick Roest took the silver, 0.47 seconds behind Van der Poel.
The bronze medal went to Norway's Hallger Ingbraten, 0.47 seconds ahead of the winner.
