The German mixed ski jumping team was disqualified at the Olympics.

Bewilderment and frustration spread in the German team.

Update from February 7th, 3:55 p.m .:

After the scandalous flood of disqualifications in the mixed competition in Beijing, ski jumping Olympic silver medalist Katharina Althaus made serious allegations towards the world association FIS.

“We were so happy to have a second competition here at the Olympics.

The FIS destroyed that with this action.

I think they destroyed women's ski jumping," said the 25-year-old from Oberstdorf.

"I don't know what they want to achieve with it."

Althaus was one of five jumpers penalized for an irregular suit in the inaugural mixed event.

As a result, Germany missed the entry into the second round and the possible medal.

"Our names are all there now, we just played the ass card.

That destroys nations, funding, and the whole sport unfairly," Althaus said.

I know my suit fit.”

In addition to Althaus, the Norwegians Silje Opseth and Anna Odine Ström, the Japanese Sara Takanashi and the Austrian Daniela Iraschko-Stolz were also disqualified.

All four top nations remained without medals.

The inspectors had no objections to the men.

First report:

Beijing – what a crazy Olympic premiere in the mixed competition in ski jumping.

A disqualification of Katharina Althaus robbed long-term world champion Germany of the hoped-for medal at the Winter Olympics.

For silver medalist Althaus, Karl Geiger, Selina Freitag and Constantin Schmid it was already over after the first round because the Oberstdorfer didn't conform to the rules.

Even with Austria and Japan, the suit was apparently too big.

The German team was completely surprised by the rule holders' decision.

"We're pissed off. The girls jumped the same suits as in the singles. That is incomprehensible," said Germany's angry team manager Horst Hüttel on ZDF. "She

says she's been checked through like never before, she says until something is found. If you take out three top athletes, you have to question yourself as an FIS. This is a real crap for our sport. Something must have happened differently today. This is scandalous. Nobody understands that. That's how you destroy the sport.” Althaus was completely upset after the disqualification, as Hüttel said.

"It's really bitter.

At the Olympics, they start testing differently or more.

For me, this is slowly becoming a Punch and Judy show.

We jump with these measurements all the time.

It's strange," said men's national coach Stefan Horngacher on ZDF: "In my view, it's no longer in the interests of sport.

You have to have a fever to make it through.”

The Finnish equipment controller Mika Jukkara, who had replaced Sepp Gratzer at the beginning of the season, also cracked down on other nations: first it hit Japan's top jumper Sara Takanashi, and a little later Austria's Daniela Iraschko-Stolz.

This meant that two more top nations were out of the race after the first round.

Horngacher no longer understood the world.

“The suit is stretchy material.

I'm very disappointed," said the Austrian.

“But the positive thing is that we made a lot of good jumps.

Karl cracked the hill.” That came pretty late in the last competition on the normal hill.

Olympia: Germany disqualified in mixed ski jumping

It was only on Sunday that Germany's men around co-favorite Karl Geiger experienced a pitch-black day and missed the medals by miles.

A podium finish in mixed was supposed to be a consolation, but things turned out differently.

Geiger was just celebrating his strong jump, which would have meant second place at halftime, when the shocking news came.

"I didn't even realize it.

I was happy about my jump," said Geiger: "It was the first that I managed.

It's super bizarre that three are out now.

This is a tough number.

I don't know what has been checked now."

Olympic premiere in ski jumping ends in scandal

The mixed competition was part of the Olympic program for the first time in Beijing, and the women in particular had vehemently tried to get a second chance at a medal.

At world championships, on the other hand, mixed has been held since 2013, and Germany won gold four times in five events.

Both Althaus and Markus Eisenbichler were part of three triumphs.

For the women around Althaus, the games are over - ski jumpers are still not allowed to compete on the large hill at the Olympic Games.

For the men, on the other hand, there are still two decisions to be made on the big Bakken: First in the individual competition on Saturday, then in the team competition on Monday.

“The large hill will be completely different.

That’s where things start anew,” says Horngacher.
