The Olympic Games are made for these moments: Beat Feuz wins downhill gold.

When talking to his family on the phone, he can hardly hold back the tears.

Yanqing – Beat Feuz is on a roll: After his victory in Kitzbühel two weeks ago, the 34-year-old has now also cleared the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

On the descent, he lived up to his role as a favorite and prevailed against his competitors.

After bronze and silver in Pyeongchang in 2018, the world champion has now crowned his career with Olympic gold.

While the Germans only played a supporting role in the Olympic downhill - Dominik Schwaiger fell badly and probably injured his forearm - Feuz delivered a gripping showdown with his French opponent Johan Clarey.

The favorite had to worry about his victory: The 41-year-old came dangerously close to Feuz' time.

Eventually, Feuz secured first place with a tenth of a second lead.

Bronze went to Austria's Matthias Mayer, 0.16 seconds back.

The German men finished 13th, 17th and 23rd.

However, the most emotional images of the downhill competition were not the celebration of victory.

At the finish, the newly crowned Olympic champion, who has just become a father for the second time, phoned his family.

The 34-year-old athlete couldn't hold back his tears.

Feuz: "One of the coolest moments of my career."

The camera showed the gold medal winner sitting on the side, cell phone in hand: With tears in his eyes, Feuz phoned his family at home.

His teammates gave him an appreciative pat on the shoulder while the Swiss shook his head in disbelief.

Feuz later explained in front of the camera that he was on the phone with his girlfriend and his little daughter.

The win was "one of the coolest moments of my career," he said.
