MK Ophir Katz's bill for a total tax exemption on winning grants for Olympic, Paralympic athletes, world champions, Europe and the Eilat Association passed last night (Monday) in the second and third readings and entered the Knesset rulebook.
It should be noted that to date, under the Income Tax Ordinance, the athletes have been required to pay a tax of between 50% -35% on the amount of their winning grant.
The bill provides for a total exemption from this tax.
Also, during the debates, MK Ophir Katz demanded that the law also apply to the winners of 2021, such as Artium Dolgofiat, Linoy Ashram and others.
MK Ofir Katz: "An important day for Israeli sports and national morale. An entire country holds its breath with the victory of each and every one of our athletes, and is excited about the hoisting of the Israeli flag and the anthem. We changed the absurd situation the state takes from those who work hard to represent it "We must take care of our athletes and encourage them to continue to excel in their field, and what we have done today is an important and significant step in this process."
