As with the previous games, German pilots are considered favorites for a medal spot in the bobsleigh competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Beijing – On October 26, 2020, the first series of bobsleigh tests began at Yanqing National Sliding Center.

These test runs were originally planned for spring of the same year.

They had to be postponed until autumn due to the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

The center was specially built to host competitions in tobogganing, bobsleigh and skeleton.

It is in the shape of a Chinese dragon.

The race track is 1,975 meters long and has 16 corners.

The Yanqing National Sliding Center can accommodate a total of 10,000 visitors.

Bobsleigh at the 2022 Winter Olympics: The Competitions

Both men's and women's competitions will be held in the sport of bobsleigh at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

For the first time, women competed in two-man bobsleigh at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics, women will also compete in mono bobsleigh.

Bobsleigh pilots and teams compete against each other in the following competitions:

  • Men's four-man bobsleigh

  • Men's Two-Way Bob

  • Women's two-piece bob

  • Women's mono bob

Bobsleigh: The dates of the competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics

The bobsleigh competitions will take place during the 2022 Winter Olympics from February 13th to 20th, 2022.

A total of 170 Olympians qualified to take part in these competitions.

These are 124 men and 46 women.

In the men's two-man bobsleigh, four runs are scheduled for February 14 and 15, 2022.

The decision will be made on February 15 in the last race at 2:50 p.m. (CET).

The men's four-man bobsleigh competitions are scheduled for February 19th and 20th.

The fourth and decisive race takes place on February 20th at 11:20 am.

The first run in women's monobobsleigh and thus the premiere in this winter sports discipline is scheduled for February 13 at 9:30 am.

Further rounds follow on the same day and the next.

The Olympic champion will be determined in the final on February 14 at 11:00 a.m.

Bobsleigh at the 2022 Winter Olympics: The Venue

The 2022 Winter Olympics will see the Yanqing National Sliding Center as the venue for the competitions.

Construction of this new sports facility started in 2018. The center officially opened on October 25, 2021 with two skeleton races.

The track has a total maximum height difference of 121 meters.

The bobsleigh competitions are held over a length of 1,615 meters.

While the Canadian Cynthia Appiah holds the track record in mono bobsleigh, German pilots and teams were able to secure it in the other Olympic disciplines.

All of these track records come from October and November 2021 respectively.

Bob: These are the favorites at the 2022 Winter Olympics

German bobsledders have dominated international bobsleigh competitions for many decades.

The favorite at the Olympic Winter Games is the German pilot Francesco Friedrich, who won gold in both four-man and two-man bobsleigh at the previous Winter Games in Pyeongchang in 2018.

Among the women, the German Olympic champion Mariama Jamanka and the Canadian Cynthia Appiah are among the favourites.
