During the 2022 Winter Olympics, the competitions will take place in curling and will be held in three different disciplines.
Leeuwarden – On December 15, 2021, the German men's team finally failed to qualify for the curling competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics. After the defeat (1:10) against the team from South Korea, the German men's team had to bury their dream of the Olympics.
After both the German women's team and the mixed duo failed to qualify, the curling competitions in Beijing 2022, like in Pyeongchang in 2018, will again take place without German athletes.
Curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics: a sport on ice
Curling is a team sport that will also be the focus of public interest at the 2022 Winter Olympics: Two teams, each with four players, compete against each other.
You use a broom to move pieces on the ice to get them as close as possible to the target marker.
Curling: The venue for the 2022 Winter Olympics
Curling competitions will be held at the Ice Cub Stadium in Beijing at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
This competition venue was built to host the swimming competitions for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In order to be able to use it for the curling tournaments in 2022, extensive renovation work took place.

Curling at the 2022 Winter Olympics: The teams
It was planned that the qualification for the Olympic curling competitions will take place as part of the World Championships in 2020 and 2021.
This project could not be realized due to the corona pandemic, because the 2020 World Cup was canceled in all three disciplines.
Accordingly, the curling athletes qualified for the 2021 World Cup.

In addition, a team is determined by winning an Olympic qualifying tournament in the so-called round robin sessions.
A total of 120 athletes (half men and half women) are registered for the curling tournament.
Curling: The competition dates at the 2022 Winter Olympics
The Olympic Winter Games 2022 provide for the holding of the curling tournaments in the period from February 2nd to 20th, 2022.
In detail, the decisive competitions are scheduled for these dates (information in CET):
February 2: Round Robin Sessions
8 February: Mixed doubles matches for 3rd place and finals at 7:05 and 1:05 respectively
February 18: Men's 3rd place match at 7.05am
19 February: Men's final at 7.05am and women's 3rd place match at 1.05pm
February 20: Women's Finals at 2:05 p.m
Curling: The favorites at the 2022 Winter Olympics
Traditionally, the North American and Scandinavian teams are considered the world's best curling teams.
For the 2022 Winter Olympics, experts see the current leaders in the World Curling Federation as the candidates with the best chances of medals.
Because of this, Sweden and Canada are the favourites.
However, when it comes to Sweden, it should be taken into account that this nation has always been in the top 3 or 5 in the world rankings for decades and yet has never won Olympic gold.
Observers believe it is possible that the Swedish team around captain Niklas Edin could succeed in becoming Olympic champions for the first time in 2022.
