The German national ice hockey team starts against the strong Canadians in the Olympic tournament.

Not a few trust the DEB team to win a medal.

Beijing - ice hockey Germany is ready for a medal!

At the start of the Olympic tournament there is a cracker match: The DEB selection of national coach Toni Söderholm meets Canada in Beijing.

Outsiders in big tournaments - that was once.

The German team is now one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Four years ago in Pyeongchang, Germany sensationally won silver - and threw the then favorites Canada out of the tournament in the semifinals.

A Finn has since made Germany an even stronger ice hockey nation.

Toni Söderholm reached the semi-finals of the 2021 World Cup and has developed the team further.

Now it's supposed to be gold.

As in 2018, NHL stars are not present at the Winter Games.

“There are still a lot of experienced players from 2018 in the team.

You have to use this advantage now against teams like Canada and the USA that have been thrown together.

We're already one of the favorites in our group," said ex-national coach and silver hero Marco Sturm.

In addition to the Canadians, the German group also includes the blatant outsiders China and the USA.

Reaching the quarter-finals will be hard work, but still an achievable goal.
