The Winter Olympics in Beijing are in full swing, but at least in the USA everything will focus on the biggest single sport event in the world on Monday night.

In the 56th Super Bowl, the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams face off.

The Rams will have a chance to celebrate the NFL championship at home, as the game will be played at their home stadium in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles.

When is the Super Bowl held?

The kick-off is on the night from Sunday to Monday

14 February

at

0.30 a.m. CET

.

On SPIEGEL.de you will find a live ticker for the NFL final.

Who is favorite for the title?

Before the season, hardly anyone was betting on a Super Bowl duel between Bengals and Rams.

After all, Los Angeles was one of the favorites, but Cincinnati was a blatant outsider.

At the end of last season, the team was still last in its division, now quarterback

Joe Burrow

's team eliminated the Las Vegas Raiders, the Tennessee Titans and the top favorite Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs one after the other.

Even in the Super Bowl, bookmakers and many experts do not see the Bengals ahead, but the Rams are only slightly favoured.

The team was last in the Super Bowl three years ago (3:13 against New England) and could now be the second team in NFL history to win the Super Bowl in their own stadium.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers did that last year, who were knocked out by the Rams in the semifinals this year.

Cincinnati vs. Los Angeles is a duel of favorites.

The main focus is not only on the quarterbacks Burrow and

Matthew Stafford

, but above all on the head coaches.

36-year-old

Sean McVay

(Rams) and 38-year-old

Zac Taylor

(Bengals) are the youngest coaching pair to face each other in a Super Bowl.

Is there a German there?

No.

Defensive player Mark Nzeocha, who was last reactivated by the San Francisco 49ers, was eliminated by the Rams in the semifinals – without playing himself.

For wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and the Packers, those 49ers were the last opponents in the quarterfinals.

Even before that, in the wild card round, fullback Jakob Johnson and the New England Patriots clearly lost to the Buffalo Bills (17:47).

Where to watch the Super Bowl

As in previous years, the game

can be seen live on free-to-air television on

ProSieben .

The transmission begins on Sunday at 10:55 p.m.

From 8.15 p.m. there will be

preliminary reporting on the partner

station ProSieben Maxx .

DAZN

also

broadcasts the Super Bowl, where the game is optionally broadcast in the original US commentary (from 11:30 p.m.).

How many are watching in the stadium?

For the Super Bowl, the capacity of the SoFi Stadium, which only opened in September 2020, will be increased from around 70,000 to

100,240 spectators

- despite the corona pandemic.

The tickets have recently been more expensive than ever.

On average, around 9,000 euros were called for the tickets, but the top prices are in the high five-digit range.

A small contingent was allocated by the NFL via a lottery, with tickets costing »only« around 500 euros.

Who is performing on the halftime show?

The halftime show has been a highlight of the Super Bowl since 1993.

After last year's half-time break for The Weeknd, hip-hop legends Eminem, Dr.

Dre and Snoop Dogg along with R'n'B singer Mary J. Blige and rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Country singer

Mickey Guyton

will sing the US national anthem before the game, "America the beautiful" will be

intoned by R'n'B artist

Jhené Aiko .

Before that, there is still room in the Super Bowl program for a star from Germany: The multiple award-winning music producer Zedd – born Anton Zaslavski in 1989 in what is now Russia and grew up in Kaiserslautern – is the official “pregame DJ” and will play music, while the players warmed up, the organizers said.

How expensive is advertising this year?

The broadcaster NBC is said to have asked for 6.5 million US dollars (around 5.5 million euros) for a 30-second spot.

So around a million more than in the previous year.
