After the Club World Cup game: football fan dies in riots in São Paulo

A Palmeiras supporter was shot dead after the final whistle of the Club World Cup final. Before that, there had been riots among the fans of the defeated club in São Paulo.

A football fan has been shot dead during a fight in the Brazilian city of São Paulo.

As the police announced on Saturday, violent riots broke out after the local football club Palmeiras São Paulo lost to Chelsea.

Around 20,000 supporters of the Copa Libertadores winners had previously gathered in front of the Allianz Parque stadium to watch the Club World Cup final being played in the United Arab Emirates, which Chelsea won 2-1.

As in the Champions League final, German international Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal, converting a penalty.

After that, there was a dispute between fans of the Brazilian team, the emergency services said.

According to local media reports, a 35-year-old man was shot in the chest.

He succumbed to his injuries a little later.

The fans also abused each other with stones and other projectiles.

According to the information, families with children were also among the spectators.

The riots lasted about half an hour, then the police intervened.
