It was a weekend to forget for EC Peiting.

The ice hockey Oberliga team went empty handed twice.

This is particularly bitter with a view to the play-offs.

Peiting

– Elias Fischbacher left no doubt that the home game on Sunday was an important one.

In an interview with the Sprade TV team, he spoke of a "game of the year" before the first face-off.

From a "twelve-point game" even.

Well, of course there isn't.

But the message from the EC Peiting player, number three behind Florian Hechenrieder and Andreas Magg in the goal of the top division ice hockey club, was clear: a win is needed to fight for sixth place - and thus for direct play-off qualification – not to lose ground.

Because a guest was the Höchstadter EC, the table neighbor who can currently challenge the Peitingers for both.

Point losses never hurt more than in such a game.

And it turned out to be a painful evening for the ECP.

After the hearty 1:8 bankruptcy two days earlier in Füssen, it was obvious that Peiting would first have to get them out of their legs – and out of their heads.

Höchstadt, who were only just inferior to Lindau on Friday, started the game more freely and had more chances.

But ECP goalie Florian Hechenrieder was wide awake.

After a bad pass from defender Alexander Winkler, he quickly put an end to a Höchstadt attack.

And intervened courageously several times in the coming minutes.

Peiting also pushed in the direction of the guest goal, but not very effectively.

Höchstadt's goalie Benjamin Dirksen blocked a shot from ECP captain Andreas Feuerecker with his shoulder.

When the goalkeeper lay defeated on the ground a few minutes later, Dmitrij Litesov held his racket protectively in front of the Höchstadt goal,

so that the slipped puck could not find its way into the goal.

Litesov had previously set an accent in attack as well.

In the majority game, Ty Morris had to watch from the penalty box for two minutes because of a high stick, he had put the people of Höchstadt in the lead.

Ice hockey league: Three goals conceded outnumbered for Peiting

With the score of 1:0 for the guests, the game started into the second third.

So Peiting had to make an effort, which he did, but things just didn't go that smoothly.

A strong attack via Feuerecker, Nardo Nagtzaam and Dominic Krabbat also ended with goalie Dirksen.

On the other hand, Hechenrieder kept his Peitinger in the game.

When the ECP was outnumbered for almost four minutes at a time, it threatened to be 0:2.

But Peiting survived the delicate phase.

The people of Höchstadt were able to use the next penalty time.

When his opponent started to spin, Florian Stauder had to come off the ice – and Michail Guft-Sokolov made it 2-0.

Bitter for Peiting.

At this point, however, it is not decisive for the game - because if you don't score a goal, you can't win anyway.

And it was Höchstadt again in the final third that scored.

Again there was a controversial penalty for Peiting, again the "Alligators" netted in the power play.

But EC Peiting couldn't just blame the referee, the team missed good opportunities themselves - and even missed a double advantage.

Feuerecker managed to make it 1:3 five minutes before the end, but when Hechenrieder left the ice a little later in favor of a sixth field player, Jannik Herm netted the 4:1 into the empty goal.

The next bitter evening came to an end for Peiting.

Nothing has changed in the table for the time being.

But Höchstadt reduced his gap to sixth place to one point - and has one game less than Peiting.

So the ECP no longer has its fate in its own hands - of course that hurts.
