The German artistic ski jumper Emma Weiß competed in the freestyle competition at the Olympics.

Because of different corona tests, she almost missed participating.

Beijing - The winter athletes have it twice as difficult at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

The athletes already have to cope with the immense pressure of only having a chance at the Olympics every four years for a medal.

At the current Winter Games, there is also the constant uncertainty of being tested positive for Corona and thus having to bury the big dream because of an imposed quarantine.

This is the case, for example, for the Nordic combined athlete Terence Weber, who had to isolate himself after arriving in China and now has to fly home.

The German extreme athlete Emma Weiß had to endure a real nerve-racking game.

The artistic ski jumper had to fear a positive corona finding every day.

The start of the German ski freestyler in the aerials competition had been open for a long time.

White was only infected with the corona virus in November.

Since then, her tests have always been positive - including when she entered Beijing last week.

In further tests in the Olympic village, the CT value, which provides information about whether a person infected with the virus is contagious, was usually between 35 and 40. White was then used as a so-called close contact.

She ate alone in her room but was allowed to exercise normally.

The doctors spoke of a "medical isolated case," said Weiß.

Once the value slipped below 35, said Weiß.

"They wanted to pick me up and take me to the isolation hotel." But that was also prevented with the help of the German Olympic team doctor Bernd Wolfarth.

"It was mentally relatively difficult to stay up to date," said Weiß about the past few days and weeks.

"It was definitely worth the stress," she said.

"This is the Olympics, you give everything for it."

Olympia: German extreme athlete fails after test ordeal in qualification

After turbulent days and a test ordeal, White was eliminated early at the Olympics.

The 22-year-old finished 20th in the qualification of the jumping competition, which was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to the weather, and was therefore only one of the twelve best athletes in the final to fight for the medals.

The athlete from the Freestyle Club Zollernalb was not able to land properly on her first attempt, for the better second she received 75.98 points.
