Shock at Maccabi Tel Aviv In light of the repeated failures this season, the club's management has made a decision that coach Yannis Sapropoulos will end his role at the club after three years and three months.
The dismissal of the Greek along with a number of impressive victories in the Euroleague, the Yellows recorded a number of low points this season, including the loss in three derby games, with the highlight last night (Monday) in a 90:80 loss in Yad Eliyahu against the city rival and relegation from the cup in the semi-finals.
The 54-year-old Sapropoulos, who was appointed in November 2018 in place of Nevan Spahija, quickly became a crowd favorite in Yad Eliyahu and was even signed to Maccabi Tel Aviv's only promotion to the Euroleague playoffs since 2015, in the 2019/20 season which was interrupted due to the corona outbreak.
But other than that season, the Greek failed in the task of bringing the doubles player to the top eight in the factory, and the poor ability shown by the Yellows from the beginning of the current season and of course the three losses in derby games led to his end.
