Should there be playoffs in the Bundesliga in the future?
If Uli Hoeneß has his way, definitely not!
He contradicts the new FCB boss Oliver Kahn.
Munich – It remains to be seen whether the supposed boredom in the Bundesliga led to FC Bayern* delivering such a bad game at VfL Bochum on Saturday.
What is certain, however, is that the league is actually considering introducing playoffs.
Oliver Kahn recently described this idea as exciting and thus indirectly spoke out in favor of an introduction.
"A format in the Bundesliga with semi-finals and finals would mean excitement for the fans," said the FCB boss: "So it makes sense to play through such an idea.
We at FC Bayern are always open to new ideas.”
Uli Hoeneß* is definitely not a fan of the playoffs!
He railed against the plans
on Monday evening on
ServusTV and called the whole thing a "joke idea".
The discussion was "ridiculous" and continued to advocate normal league operations.
"In the Bundesliga,
whoever is the best after 34 matchdays and who has been through thick and thin with his team should win
the championship," said the honorary president: "That's just a law against Bayern Munich.
That has nothing to do with tension.”
FC Bayern: Bundesliga reform?
"Joke idea!" - Uli Hoeneß railed against Kahn and the DFL
He sees the playoff plans as a kind of attack by the DFL on the dominance of FC Bayern - and takes a sharp stance on the German Football League!
"The new managing director (
Donata Hopfen, editor's note
) of the DFL thinks day and night about how to break the dominance of FC Bayern," Hoeneß shoots: "And that's when they came up with this idea.
There are no playoffs in any major league in the world, not in England, not in Spain, not in Italy, not in France.”
FC Bayern has recently won the German championship nine times in a row and after 22 matchdays is already six points ahead of pursuers Borussia Dortmund.
BVB was last able to win the Bundesliga title in 2012 - since then the record champions have always been presented with the trophy.
On Wednesday, Bayern will meet RB Salzburg in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
After the embarrassing slip in the league at the weekend, Julian Nagelsmann's team has to make amends in the premier class.
