ESC trainer Franz Steer is proud of his team.
Dorfen – After a forced two-week break, the Dorfener Puckjäger have successfully returned to the relegation round with a surprising 4:2 win at ERV Schweinfurt.
The fear that one had gotten out of rhythm was only apparent at the beginning.
"My team was obviously still on the bus and had heavy legs," said coach Franz Steer.
"We owed it to our goalkeeper Luca Endres that we didn't fall behind and were able to keep it 0-0 until the break."
With 16 field players and two goalkeepers (Schweinfurt: 15+2), finally three of them defenders again, the Ice Pirates went to work noticeably more united.
Steer was visibly relieved and confirmed his team's good performance after the "so important win".
But he also pointed out that the team had not been on the ice for ten days in the last two weeks of the Corona break and were still missing two regular defenders and a complete line of attackers.
ERV coach AndreasClothes confirmed his team's good performance in the first third, but regretted that some avoidable mistakes had been made as a result.
After being 3-1 behind, his team had to work brutally to get back on track.
After the Canadian top scorer Dylan Hood scored the goal in the final minute with a man down (52nd), his team made a field player more and won the face-off too awkwardly and thus captured the empty net goal.
ESC ice hockey boss Manfred Detterbeck was delighted, who, despite his knee problems, did not shy away from the 320-kilometer journey to Lower Franconia, which was well worth it.
