Juve, Vlahovic and the adulterated Bloody Mary

2022-02-15T04:04:07.564Z

The Turin club spends a fortune in the winter market to sign the top scorer of the League and correct the umpteenth mistake of its president, Andrea Agnelli

The other day we met a friend in a bar next to the Roman Piazza Farnese to have an aperitif (in the afternoon, important not to confuse with the Spanish, at noon).

It was a seedy place without any care for the cocktail bar.

Despite signals coming from the bar, which clearly contradicted her wishes, she insisted on ordering a Bloody Mary.

She first happened that she didn't think she had enough Vodka.

So she demanded that the waiter correct her disappointment with one more splash of the Russian distillate.

When she tried it again, she insisted that it was still a championship disappointment.

The third time, tired of going from the bar to the terrace, the guy came back with a glass with the remains of tomato, pepper and a swamp of vodka.

The obvious purpose that my friend pursued with that correction was already more than fulfilled.

But the three of us agreed that this adulterated concoction was no longer called a Bloody Mary.

Something similar has happened to Serie A during this winter market with the signing of Dusan Vlahovic.

La Vecchia Signora has just corrected the lousy sports cocktail that its president, Andres Agnelli, had prepared at the beginning of the season.

As the planning in the summer was disastrous and the club only aspired, with some luck, to the watery positions of the Champions League, who was one of the three tenors of the Superliga decided to adulterate the championship and buy himself in January for 80 million from the top scorer from Serie A and the Coppa Italia: Dusan Vlahovic.

The play, in the purest style of Núñez's goalkeeper, completely destroys any aspirations of Fiorentina - the Serb's old team - and guarantees a good stream of goals to his new team, which was unable to put Morata and Dybala into orbit in the scoreboard: Vlahovic has 22 goals in 26 games (18 in Serie A and three in the Coppa Italia).

And incidentally Agnelli shows that his club can make the waiter go back and forth from the bar to the table as many times as he needs until he wins.

Juventus have also signed Denis Zakaria.

A Swiss midfielder who will provide the distribution he needed in midfield.

And he stabilizes the position of its president, much discussed at the beginning of the season and lately subject to all kinds of rumors that the head of the family, John Elkann, was thinking of looking for a replacement.

Especially after the ruinous business of Cristiano Ronaldo, who came to win a Champions League and left the club in the red (it cost 30 million per season plus the 90 they paid to Real Madrid).

Agnelli always thought that he would have liked to sign the Portuguese when he was 27 years old.

But now he has achieved something better: the hit of the market, with a young, strong, tall (1.90m, he was going for a basketball player) and fast player who wants to conquer the world.

Vlahovic has incomparable hunger and talent.

The Serbian, a player who powerfully reminds Ibrahimovic of the best times, has already conquered the hearts of the Tifosi Bianconeri and is called to mark an era in the Turin club.

In the first two games he scored a goal and provided an assist (yesterday they drew 1-1 against Atalanta).

The Serbian is outstanding, perhaps the best center forward in Europe, with permission from Haaland, big game next summer.

He is only 22 years old and was discovered by the then scout and expert in the Balkan market of the club, Pantaleo Corvino.

Fiorentina paid one and a half million to Partizan Belgrade.

First it didn't finish curdling, but they were patient and it ended up breaking it.

The business for the club of the American Rocco B. Commiso is round.

Had he waited until the summer, the value of a footballer closer to the end of his contract in 2023 would have fallen.

And renewing him was impossible.

Neither Vlahovic wanted to continue, nor could Fiorentina have allowed it.

But does it make sense for the legitimacy of a championship that its biggest star moves from one club to another in the middle of the season?

The answer could lie with the waiter at the bar in Piazza Farnese.
