2022-02-15T10:48:58.050Z

26 choirs of 300 children will sing the anthems of France, England or New Zealand during World Cup matches,

“Imagine September 8, 2023, the start of the Rugby World Cup at the Stade de France, between the All Blacks and France.

300 young children on the lawn to sing the anthems of the two countries.

We dreamed of it, it will come true”.

Claude Atcher, the general manager of France 2023, organizer of the next Rugby World Cup, unveiled this weekend the original initiative which will take place on all the matches of the event, in just over 18 months ( from September 8 to October 28, 2023).

Baptized “La Mêlée des Chœurs”, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education and the Opéra Comique, the operation consists of having more than 7,000 young people sing on the lawns of the 10 cities hosting the competition.

Concretely, 26 choirs of 300 children will be created and trained by National Education teachers, and accompanied by the pros of the Opéra Comique.

Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, these children will learn the anthems and repeat them, then perform them live in the stadiums during 48 matches.

La Marseillaise and Ireland's Call have just resonated at @StadeFrance.

“Associating music and sport makes a lot of sense, explained Jean-Michel Blanquer, Minister of National Education and Sport.

The link between rugby and choirs is the collective values.

This operation is in line with our choir plan launched 4 years ago, which means that today 88% of colleges have a choir.

This initiative was the subject of an agreement signed between the ministry, the Opéra Comique and France 2023, signed just before the France-Ireland match on Saturday at the Stade de France, counting for the Six Nations Tournament.

France 2023 has also signed another agreement with the UNSS (National Union of School Sport), to develop the teaching of rugby at school, in view of the World Cup.
