Johannes Lochner (Germany), 2nd run:

The second fastest German pilot Johannes Lochner starts with the same time as Gaitiukewitsch, shows a good line in his run and takes the lead with a strong time of 1:58.53 minutes after two runs.

How does Francesco Friedrich answer?

2nd run:

Rostislaw Gaitiukewitsch, who was third, got on the track with a strong start. Despite several minor mistakes, he was able to overtake Hafer.

His best time was 1:59.32 minutes after two runs.

The third fastest German two-man bobsleigh from the first round does well in the second run and takes the lead by a tenth of a second.

The Swiss Michael Vogt comes faster through the first corners and sets a new record with a time of 1:59.47.

Oskars Kibermanis was one of the favorites with his Latvian two-man bobsleigh, but only finished tenth in the first run.

The Romanian pilot Mihai Tentea makes a few mistakes and only finishes seventh, followed by the Brit Bradley Hall, who takes the lead ahead of the Czech team.

After a poor effort by Won Yun-jong's South Korean bobsleigh, the better of the US teams couldn't get past fourth place.

As the best Chinese team, it is the turn of pilot Sun Khaizi's bobsled and he is able to position himself in front of the Italian.

The Latvian duo around Emils Cipulis placed behind the host team with a time of 2:00.24 minutes.

The Swiss Simon Friedli and Andreas Haas disappointed in the first round, they didn't manage a good run in the second either, third place is the consequence.

2nd run:

The twentieth from the first run begins, the Italian pilot Patrick Baumgartner jerks a little on his way to the finish, ultimately a total time of 2:00.55 after the two runs.

It is now up to the other athletes to surpass them.

The third German two-man bobsleigh consisting of Christoph Hafer and his brakeman Matthias Sommer also made a strong showing. With a time of 59.44 seconds, he is currently fourth.

Rostislav Gaitiukewitsch from Russia is one of the favourites, but he and his brakeman cannot overtake Friedrich with a time of 59.41.

Brit Brad Hall also put in a good run, but in the end he fell behind and ended up well behind the leaders, 67 hundredths of a second behind.

Johannes Lochner (Germany), 1st run:

The second German also got off to a good start, in the end Lochner ended up just 24 hundredths behind his compatriot Friedrich and was second, at least for the time being.

Canadian pilot Justin Kripps is considered a major contender but in his first run he loses a lot of time after a penalty and is clearly behind with a time of 59.61.

The Russian duo around pilot Maxim Andrianov has to integrate behind the bob from the Principality, the gap is 62 hundredths.

The canal in the National Bobsleigh and Luge Center in Yanqing seems to suit the athletes from Germany, and they have already won a large number of medals in luge and skeleton.

Again and again, Francesco Friedrich is in focus, this year's flag bearer would be only too happy to repeat his coup in Pyeongchang.

In contrast to Friedrich, Johannes Lochner was strong in training and set the best time in the fifth training run.

"It's really fun on the track, I'm very confident, I'll see that I can do four runs well, then we can also compete for the medals," said the Vice World Champion, who hopes for a podium finish with his brakeman Florian Bauer from Ohlstadt.

The Upper Bavarian bobsleigh pilot Christoph Hafer also showed an appealing performance with his brakeman Matthias Sommer and was even the fastest in the last training run.

“If a mistake happens here, one or two tenths are gone.

I want to get the best out of it," said Hafer.

Probably the biggest competitor for the German starters in 2-man bobsleigh is Canadian Justin Kripps, and Latvian Oskars Kibermanis and Rostislaw Gaitiukewitsch from Russia are also considered favourites.

The first rounds on Monday will set the direction for the finale, the two decisive runs will follow on Tuesday afternoon (1.15 p.m. CET), after the four runs in total the new Olympic champion will be determined.
