Maccabi Tel Aviv woke up this morning (Wednesday) to Sunday morning without Yannis Sapropoulos after almost three and a half years.

In the evening, the Greek coach accepted the management's decision that was approved at a meeting held at Udi Recanati's offices in Herzliya, and according to sources in the team and people close to Sapropoulos, the parties parted in a beautiful and respectful manner.

Sapropoulos was not surprised by the very decision of the management.

In Maccabi's previous big crisis, about a month and a half ago, after the first loss in the derby, the feelings around him were that the management might end the contract, but Maccabi decided to continue with it for economic or technical reasons, but even then it was clear that there was not too much trust between the parties.

After the loss in the derby yesterday, the coach already knew that this was the end of the road for him, and the team members who left the hall had already said that "in order for him to coach another game here, we have to move mountains."

Last night, after the announcement was made to Sapropolos at his home, the heads of Maccabi Tel Aviv met with Oded Katash, when earlier in the afternoon initial talks were held with the person who serves as the professional manager of Gilboa / Galil.

The initial thought of the Maccabi people was to continue with Avi Even at first, until a suitable candidate was found, but as he continued today, a decision was made to try to go with someone more experienced like Katsh, which is acceptable to most Maccabi people.

At the meeting, Katsh clarified that he does not intend to agree to a contract until the end of the season only.

Maccabi did not rule out the possibility that he will continue beyond this season, but did not want to commit to it contractually.

The team's thought is that in the summer there will be enough relevant and senior available candidates for coaching the Yellows, among them who is considered the leading candidate on most of the system - Andrea Trinkieri from Bayern Munich.

Maccabi does not want to tie their hands, so they want a coach until the end of the season and nothing more.

A number of European coaches were offered by their men to Maccabi, among them Zevzdan Mitrovic who was fired from Monaco and Yevgeny Pshutin who ended his career at Kuban, but at this stage Maccabi rejected the possibility.

One of the team members said last night: "We want to appoint a coach now, and if there was someone we agreed to be available now and we would see him as the club's future coach, we would give him a long term contract, but that's not the case. "Give him a guaranteed contract for a season and a half now."

Despite this situation, the parties should continue to litigate to try to reach a conclusion.

The one who is still in the Yellows' plans for the professional team is Rami Hadar.

As you may recall, the outgoing coach of Hapoel Beer Sheva served as Erez Edelstein's assistant for a short time before he was fired, and then coached the team for several months himself.

Maccabi appreciates Hadar's professional work, and is interested in joining him as Katsch's assistant.

It is possible that if things do not work out, Hadar will join the team led by Avi Even.

consensus.

The team will return to training today after the loss to the derby and ahead of the game against Hapoel Eilat, when Avi Even will transfer the training alongside the assistant coaches who will remain in the team - Doron Perkins and Noam Levy.

The training will take place between the preparations of the basketball association members for the state cup final, or as one of the club members defined it, "to practice and see all the signs there and know that you are not in this celebration, it is an arrow in the heart."

The club will soon decide how to deal with James Nanley, Jaylen Reynolds and Derek Williams, the three players whose celebratory video after the derby loss was posted on Instagram.

Maccabi knows that legally there is a problem putting the players on a disciplinary committee, but the three are expected to be called for a clarification call at the very least.

For those who expect Yannis Sapropoulos to pack his things today and leave Israel, a slight surprise awaits.

The Greek coach has not yet made a decision on when he will leave the country, and it may take him a few more days of arrangements before returning to Greece.

Sapropolus may even travel to the United States to visit his son who plays there as part of the colleges and only then return to his homeland.

Professionally, the coaches' market is currently not saturated with good offers, and it is very possible that Sapropulos will remain out until the end of the season when, in terms of salary, he is covered by Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The economic situation in Greece creates a situation that good offers from home come only from the two giants Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.

Sapropoulos is building on an offer from one of the top leagues in Europe for next season, and in any case wants to continue coaching and does not intend to take a time-out.

One of the team members added about the parting from Populus and said: "This is a real gentleman, it's a pity things did not work out, he has served the club in so many ways in recent years and has entered everyone's heart."
