The Honda rider changes his residence to be able to work with the team of Rafa Nadal's trusted doctor

Marc Marquez moves to Madrid.

He does it for health reasons.

He has put himself in the hands of Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, the reference doctor of another of the great Spanish athletes, Rafael Nadal, to help him recover the good condition of his right arm.

Only then will he be able to start the MotoGP season with his body and mind aligned and in search of the same goal: to be world champion again.

"The trustworthy team that I have found is here and I have decided to bet everything to return to the top, which is where I left off," the athlete told El País.

The Catalan rider is one of the few riders in the Motorcycle World Championship who continues to reside in Spain.

In fact, he and his brother Márquez are the only ones in MotoGP who have not moved his residence to Andorra or Switzerland.

Maintaining the same lifestyle and being close to his parents and his friends were always the reasons that kept them in Cervera, a small and pretty inland town in the province of Lleida.

Now, however, the eight-time world champion has been forced to move his residence from Cervera to Madrid for health reasons.

The humerus injury he suffered in July 2020, which forced him to undergo surgery up to three times – in addition to the bone fracture, on two occasions, he had an infection of it – forced him to drive last season with pain and difficulty.

He is still not recovered.

There is irritation and inflammation especially after great efforts.

This is how he perceived it when just a few days ago he got back on his Honda and participated in the pre-season tests in Malaysia and Indonesia.

For this reason, Márquez, who turns 29 this Thursday, has finally resorted to the help of the doctor, specialist in traumatology and doctor of the Spanish tennis federation, Ángel Ruiz Cotorro.

In order to work with him, the man who has helped Rafael Nadal so many times to overcome his knee and foot problems -among many other injuries-, the Honda rider has decided to move to Madrid, where he will be able to work day by day with the entire team of Cotorro specialists, based in the capital.

Márquez, who in 2021, despite his physical limitations, achieved three victories, assumes that he will not yet be 100% ready for the first race of the year, on March 6 in Qatar: “Not as I would like, but in some optimal conditions to start the season”, assumes the rider himself, who attends this Thursday night the

(produced by Mediapro and to be broadcast from March on Amazon Prime Video).

The blame, in addition to the terrible injury that left him nine months out after a chilling accident at the Jerez circuit in July 2020, is partly due to another second accident: the one he suffered when he was training by doing motocross in the month of October .

He hit his head and that caused diplopia, a double vision problem like the one that had already happened in 2011. In order to be cured of that other ailment he had to rest completely, which prevented him from continuing to work on his arm.

It was Dr. Samuel Antuña, the same one who operated on his humerus for the third and last time, at the Ruber Internacional clinic a little over a year ago, who recommended him to work with Cotorro.

“We have looked for different opinions and in the end we have seen that Cotorro's opinion is helping me a lot.

From the point of view of physical condition and recovery.

The goal is to maintain that fresh physical condition throughout the year,” explains Márquez.

“For this I have had to sacrifice some things.

One of them is to make a major change in my life.

Leaving Cervera and moving to Madrid this year, where I will reside throughout 2022 ″, he adds.
