The England squad will play their Nations League home matches in June against Italy and Hungary at Wolverhampton's home stadium in Molineux, the FA announced on Thursday.

The match against Italy on June 11 will be played behind closed doors as a punishment for the unrest at Wembley Stadium during last July's Euro 2020 final which saw the Azzurri beat the Three Lions in shots on goal.

The public will however be admitted for the match against Hungary on 14 June.

The last time the English eleven played at the Molineux stadium, the Wolves stadium which can now accommodate some 31,000 spectators, dates back to 1956.

"Although Wembley is our home, we also like to play the team elsewhere when possible and especially in the qualifying stages of a major tournament," said Gareth Southgate, England coach.

"2022 is shaping up to be an exciting journey for England fans and it's good that some of the country's top stadiums are part of it," he added.

England, who will also face Germany in Group A3, will start their Nations League fixtures with a trip to Budapest on June 4.
