There is a new Olympic champion in ice hockey!
On Sunday morning (February 20th) Finland secures the gold medal in the final against the Olympic athletes from Russia.
The Scandinavians narrowly won the ice hockey final in Beijing 2-1 (0-1, 1-0, 1-0) and thus prevented the Russians from defending their title, who beat Germany 4-3 in the final in Pyeongchang in 2018.

With this result, Canada remains joint record Olympic champions with the Russian selection (including the successes of the former Soviet Union).
Both nations have won nine gold medals so far.

Mikhail Grigorenko (8th) puts Russia ahead in the early stages.
Ville Pokka (24th) and Hannes Björninen (41st) can turn the game around for the Finns, who win the gold medal in ice hockey for the first time in their history.

Ice hockey at the 2022 Olympics: Finland wins gold – Slovakia surprisingly takes bronze
Now coach Jukka Jalonen's team has climbed the Olympic ice hockey throne undefeated.
The bronze medal goes to surprise team Slovakia*, who beat Sweden 4-0 on Saturday.
For the Slovaks it is the first Olympic medal as an independent nation.
The 2022 Olympics were a big disappointment for the German national ice hockey team*.
After a weak preliminary round, the DEB team is already eliminated in the quarter-final qualification.
Last Tuesday (February 15), the team of national coach Toni Söderholm* was clearly defeated by the later bronze medalist Slovakia by 0:4*.
The German ice hockey cracks did not repeat the great success of 2018.
Four years ago, the DEB team sensationally won silver in South Korea.
In 2026 the Winter Olympics will take place in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo.
