The first German Olympic champion of these Winter Games was
Johannes Ludwig
.
The luger secured the gold medal ahead of Austria's Wolfgang Kindl.
Bronze went to the Italian Dominik Fischnaller in the individual competition.
"I'm kind of pretty happy," said the 35-year-old Ludwig on ZDF: "And I'm glad I've stayed on the ball all these years.
I often didn't qualify for the Olympics, I often didn't get a medal at World Championships, but I kept going.
Now I know it was the right thing to do.« Four years ago in South Korea, Ludwig had already won gold in the team competition.

The second gold medal for Team Germany was a surprise:
Denise Herrmann
had won Olympic gold in the biathlon individual over 15 kilometers.
The 33-year-old made just one shooting error and was the first German since Andrea Henkel to decide the supreme discipline in biathlon in her favor at the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

Again and again
Natalie Geisenberger
: The record world champion prevailed at the Winter Games after four runs ahead of her teammate Anna Berreiter, who won silver in her Olympic debut.
For the successful luger Geisenberger it was already the fifth gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games.

What a sprint it was at the end: Nordic combined athlete
Vinzenz Geiger
was also able to enter the list of Beijing winners with Olympic gold on the normal hill.
The man from Oberstdorf came directly from the Corona quarantine before his success - and secured the title with a sensational finish.
Geiger, who was only eleventh after the jumping, continued the German series of successes and ensured the fourth Olympic victory for the "Dominators" in a row - the Germans have been unbeaten at the Winter Games since 2014.

The fifth German gold medal at these games was again contributed by the lugers: the doubles
Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt
wrote Olympic luge history with their success - the duo drove to the third gold medal in a row.

Desolate games in Beijing were often reported, but this picture of the sixth German gold medal can almost be considered a real party photo: After successes in the individual luge races, the
mixed relay
also triumphed .
The single-seater Olympic champions Geisenberger and Johannes Ludwig tobogganed together with the double-seater Olympic champions Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt to victory.
And this success was also historic: Geisenberger became a record German Olympic champion with her sixth gold medal at the Winter Games.
The Wendl/Arlt duo now also has a total of six Olympic gold medals.

Kindly please:
Christopher Grotheer
should continue the German winning streak in the Yanqing ice channel.
The 29-year-old was crowned the first German skeleton Olympic champion by a large margin.
At its Olympic premiere four years ago in Pyeongchang, Grotheer finished eighth.

Again and again Eiskanal: The women should also have the first German Olympic champion in skeleton.
Her name:
Hannah Neise
, 21 years old.
It was a sensational success, as she was only eighth after the first run.
However, in the final run, the fourth run, Neise made no mistakes - and raced to gold.

They were right at the front, but it was also a successful race for the DOSB athletes in general: The German bobsledders celebrated a triple success in the two-man bobsleigh.
Francesco Friedrich

Thorsten Margis won
gold ahead of Johannes Lochner (silver with Florian Bauer) and Christoph Hafer (bronze with Matthias Sommer).

For once, we're not in the ice channel.
Here you can see the finish line of one of Beijing's most spectacular decisions - the cross-country sensation of Katharina Hennig and Victoria Carl.
In the last few meters, Carl (left) surprisingly secured the gold medal in the cross-country team sprint for the German selection.
Actually, Carl was not intended for the race at all.
The 26-year-old had replaced Katherine Sauerbrey, who was scheduled to play alongside Hennig, at short notice.
Sauerbrey didn't feel 100% fit.

Francesco Friedrich
and his crew
won the twelfth and last German gold medal in Beijing in four-man bobsleigh on the final day of the Winter Games.
It was a historic triumph for him: The 31-year-old is now the first pilot to win two-man and four-man bobsleigh at two consecutive Winter Games.
