The bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics in Taekwondo surrendered in the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Albania to the Croatian Bruna Dubnicic

Not this time.

Taekwondo fighter Avishag Samberg lost today (Monday) in the quarterfinals, in the World Cup round competition held in Albania and failed to get on the podium, having done so in all competitions since 2019.

The 20-year-old Samberg, a bronze medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, who competes in the weight category up to 49 kg, opened the competition day successfully, when she had no trouble defeating Russia Irina Rogozin 4:12 and in the next round, after a close battle, she won 14:18 in the quarterfinals Turkey Zainap Teskin.

The next match against Bruna Dubnicic from Croatia, was close and the Israeli was already 5: 1 behind in the last round until she managed to equalize and the match went into a gold score, when it was finally decided by the Croatian due to more effective kicks during the match, which sent the Israeli Home already in the quarterfinals.

According to records from the World Taekwondo Association, this is the first competition since 2019, with Samberg failing to finish in one of the top three places and climb the podium.

As you may recall, on Saturday in the same competition, the world champion, the paralytic taekwondo fighter Assaf Yasur, achieved the bronze medal, while the rest of the Israelis failed to reach the later stages.
