The US women's soccer team wins the lawsuit against the Federation for salary inequalities

The US women's soccer team closed an important chapter in its history on Tuesday.

Justice has agreed with the players in their complaint against the Soccer Federation of the American country for having systematically received less support and money than their male colleagues.

The body must pay the sum of 24 million dollars (21 million euros), of which 22 will be distributed among the players.

The remaining amount will go to an account designed to support women footballers once their careers are over and also for solidarity campaigns related to women's football.

Federation and players have issued a joint statement on social networks to give details about the end of their dispute.

“Getting to this day has not been easy.

The players of the United States women's national team have achieved an unprecedented triumph while working for equal pay for themselves and future athletes.

Today, we recognize the legacy of past team leaders who helped make this day possible, as well as the women and girls who will follow them.

Together, we dedicate this moment to them”, explains the text.

The Federation has also committed to ensuring equal pay between men and women of the national team from this moment on.

The road to this resolution began in March 2019 with a first complaint to the US soccer regulatory body.

The players pointed out that the Federation paid men a minimum of 5,000 dollars (4,400 euros) per game, while that did not happen with women, who only got paid if they won against a team among the top 10 FIFA list. .

The lawsuit of the women's group was dismissed by a judge in May 2020, since he considered that there was no basis to obtain salary improvements through the courts.

However, the players did not give up and chose to appeal the sentence.

One of the most outstanding protagonists in this whole process has been forward Megan Rapinoe.

In addition to the fight for equal pay, the player has also been insistent in the defense of minorities, the rights of the LGTBI group and other social causes.
