Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Finance Ministry Minister Hemed Amar met today (Wednesday) with Olympic Committee Chairman Yael Arad, Olympic Committee CEO Gili Lusting, along with Olympic athletes Hannah Minenko and Yaakov Tomarkin.
The athletes thanked the Minister of Finance for his initiative to abolish the tax on winning money for Olympic champions and world champions and presented their vision for Israeli sports.
The Minister noted that the success of the athletes and investment in excellence is a success of the whole country.
The Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman, told the athletes and the representatives of the Olympic Committee: And bring us national honor and pride.
"Success in sports is a cross-sectoral issue - right, left, religious, secular, sport unites everyone, it is a huge contribution to the national resilience of the State of Israel."
Yael Arad, Chairman of the Olympic Committee: "Israeli sports are the crown of excellence of Israeli society and we want to thank you for your support. The success of our athletes has no value measured in money."
Gili Lusting, CEO of the Israel Olympic Committee: "It's not just the money as it's the back wind, the athletes feel that the state backs them up and it gives them the strength to succeed."
Swimmer Yaakov Tomarkin: "I wanted to say thank you for the initiative, for the proper move. We are very happy to be here and I hope we will continue to bring achievements and be better."
Triple jumper Hannah Minenko: "I wanted to thank you for the move you made, it is very important for the country and for Olympic sports."
