The "mammoths" get going in time for the derby: EA Schongau caught up with EHC Waldkraiburg from a 0:2 deficit.

Schongau – After close games, EA Schongau had not been able to do that in the Bayernliga promotion round.

In the catch-up game against EHC Waldkraiburg, the "Mammuts" broke this spell.

With a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Lions, which saw them come back from a 2-0 deficit, EAS kept their play-off chances alive.

"We had changed the tactics a bit," reported Schongau's coach Rainer Höfler.

Three days earlier, the “mammoths” had been literally run over by the then hosts from Waldkraiburger, who were setting a hell of a pace at 4:7.

The Schongauer didn't interfere so early in the home game and tried to cover the middle third in order to reduce the danger of counterattacks by the EHC's fast wingers.

"That worked quite well," said Höfler, who also had other explanations for the important home win: "The team was ready, defended well and Daniel was great in goal." In fact, keeper Daniel Blankenburg made some top-class possibilities of the guests destroyed.

The Schongauer, who were again weakened by the absence of Daniel Holzmann, Simon Maucher and Jonas Lautenbacher, recorded the first big chance through Roman Tomanek (2nd).

As a result, the Waldkraiburger had the larger game shares.

Blankenburg defused two dangerous actions by Sebastian Stanik (6th) and Leon Decker (11th).

A little later, his opponent was in focus: EHC keeper Christoph Lode parried a penalty shot by Florian Seelmann (11th), who had previously been slightly hindered in a counterattack, which the petty whistling referees punished.

Kevin Steiner (12th) and Matthias Müller (12th) also failed to convert their chances.

EHC striker Christian Neuert did better, scoring to make it 1-0 (14th).

A double majority of the "mammoths" before the end of the third brought nothing.

In the middle section, the game initially splashed away.

Only after Christof Hradek poked the target to make it 2-0 (26 th ) in the EAS cost did the game pick up speed again.

A big chance from Florian Höfler (26') was followed by a weak power play by the home side and a good chance for EHC (31').

With a bit of luck, a backhand shot from Kevin Steiner (32nd) landed in the box to make it 1:2.

The goal gave the “mammoths” a boost.

Jason Lavallee (35th) missed a chance to equalize, only to nett a little later after a good target capture in the opposing third to make it 2:2 (39th).

Immediately afterwards, Steiner (40th) missed the opportunity to take the lead in EAS.

He was also unlucky at the beginning of the final period when Steiner's shot (41') missed the target just before the line.

After that it went back and forth.

The Schongauer kept up the pace of the guests.

Tomanek finally converted – in another majority situation – an ideal pass from Höfler to make it 3:2 (52nd).

In the exciting final phase, the EAS fans caught their breath when Waldkraiburg's Patrick Zimmermann (54th) missed a counterattack chance.

The “Mammuts” outnumbered the last few minutes and played it down without any major problems.

Schongauer's fight for the play-offs continues this Friday (8 p.m.) with the home game against the "Peißenberg Miners".

"That can be hui or ugh again, let's be surprised," Höfler trusts his men in the derby again.

In terms of personnel, things are looking a little better than in the Waldkraiburg game, since at least Maucher is available again.

On Sunday (6 p.m.) the EAS is required at the TEV Miesbach.

"Everything is possible if we play consistently," explains Höfler before the duel in second place.
