The constant threat to the empire: Philip Kostic wants to dismantle Bayern Munich again

The Serbian winger has beaten Bayern in 3 of the last 4 games against them, and commentators in Germany claim that he is one of the best in his role in the world.

The champion will be happy if he leaves for Tottenham in the summer, but in the meantime he will be happy to celebrate again on its shaky home front (Saturday, 19:30, Sport4)

Summary: Bayern Munich - Eintracht Frankfurt 2: 1 (Sport 1)

This was one of the strangest scandals in the transfer market.

In late August, Lazio believed she had a good chance of signing Philip Kostic from Eintracht Frankfurt, summed up the details with the player himself, and sent an official offer to his club by email.

Athletic director Eagle Tara waited for an answer, but she did not arrive.

When asked to understand where things stand, he was told that the message had not been received at all, and it was clearly discovered that the address was incorrect.

Lazio vehemently claimed that the mistake was made maliciously, and the Germans deliberately omitted one letter to prevent the deal.

On the other hand, they said in Frankfurt that the Italians just do not know how to spell.

There is nothing to do - the name is very long, and German is a difficult language.

Meanwhile, the window was already close to closing, and time was running out.

Kostich rage.

At 28, he felt it was the right time to upgrade, and longed to try a new adventure in a larger group and get paid higher.

He even switched agents in 2021 for the mission, and began working with Italian Alessandro Luci who knows Serie A well.

His belligerent attitude actually exacerbated his situation, because athletic director Marcus Crochet really did not want to set dangerous precedents.

"Philip is a very good guy, but even very good guys make mistakes sometimes," he said - making it clear that there is no chance of a deal.

Responsible for Naglesman's first loss

The business could have gotten a blast, but new coach Oliver Glasner acted wisely.

Instead of criticizing Kostic in the media and exacerbating the conflict, he spoke to him in private and explained how immense the appreciation for him was.

If the club refuses to sell him for 18 million euros, a sign that you are worth more.

It was decided to reach a ceasefire, the Serb invited the entire staff to a meal at his home, apologized to the fans and promised: "I will return with even higher motivation than before".

Said - and exists.

One of his first victims was Bayern Munich.

Julian Naglesman's tenure as champion coach opened on the right foot, but in early October he met Kostic's left foot, which ended in a debut loss.

After an early goal by Leon Gorczak, the Serb sent a corner kick to the head of Martin Hinterger to equalize, and in the 84th minute he subdued Manuel Neuer from a difficult angle to set up a 1-2 draw and bring his team a first win of the season in the seventh round, following a streak of draws .

In general, Bayern should have been very sorry for the failure of the deal with Lazio, who left Kostic as an eagle in Frankfurt instead of becoming an eagle in Rome.

The Bavarians have a traditional problem with Borussia Mönchengladbach, but in the last three seasons Eintracht under the conquest of the Serb has also joined the narrow list of black sheep.

Made Bayern sorry.

Caused dismissal of Nico Kovacs

It started in November 2019, when Jerome Boateng was sent off at the start of his visit to Frankfurt, and the big celebration began.

Kostic, who made a crazy living on the left wing and scored himself, cooked the second for Jibril Soo, and after the break also raised a horn to Hinterger's head.

It ended with a crushing 1: 5, and became Nico Kovac's last game as Bayern coach.

Hansy Flick replaced him, returning himself with two-fifths to the Frankfurt net, but one of them occurred when Kostic was absent due to a knee injury.

With the return of the Serb, he beat Bayern again.

Frankfurt won 1: 2 exactly a year ago, when Kostic cooked for Daichi Kamada, squeezed two saves from Neuer, and blossomed again from the left.

And here you go - even in the first round of the season, he excelled with a goal and cooking.

In total, we have three wins over Bayern in the last four games against them.

Kovacs, Flick and Naglesman tried to find a way to keep him and failed.

As Glasner says, "Philip is like Arian Ruben, only on the other side. He will always go on the left foot, everyone knows what he is going to do, and yet they fail to stop him."

Paid the price.

Started in Ruben's group

The comparison to the Dutchman is not accidental, because once - at the beginning of Kostic's path - he was called "the Serbian majority".

He arrived in 2012 at Groningen, Ruben's mythical ex, replacing Dusan Tadic who left for Twente.

The Dutch league brightens the face of players like him, and after one positive season in 2013/14 he made his way to Stuttgart, where sporting director Freddy Bobic was very proud of the acquisition.

Two years later, Stuttgart relegated to the Second Division, Kostic moved to Hamburg - and with it also experienced a historic and traumatic decline in 2018.

These four years have yielded quite a few excellent games, and it is not for nothing that his name is also linked to Liverpool, but in general they were characterized by extreme instability, and the player himself defined them in retrospect as difficult.

Expectations from him were often too high, the pressure at the bottom really did not help mentally, and statistically his output was not sufficient over time.

He found the right place for him in Frankfurt, and even there Bobic was happy to bring him, for the second time in his career.

The dizzying success since then lies in the change of role conceived by coach Eddie Hooter.

Until then Kostik was defined as a left winger or midfielder on the wing, and that was fine, but his technical abilities over small areas are relatively limited, and he tended to lose too many balls.

In contrast, his breaking power is phenomenal, he passes opponents thanks to dizzying speed, and is especially dangerous with wide balls and kicks when he comes into swing.

For Hooter, as a player in charge of the entire left wing in a three-brake formation, Kostic got what he loves most of all - plenty of free space ahead of him.

His dominance rose miraculously, he became a machine when it came to creating valley conditions.

"One of the best stars in the world in his role."

Deputy King of Cooking after Muller

Add to that the expertise in making stationary balls, and it's not hard to see why he climbed to the top of the high number of cooks.

He scored 12 assists in 2018/19, 13 in the 2019/20 season, and last year he was already ranked as Thomas Müller's deputy in the cooks' rankings with 17. Not only did he break Bayern down to pieces, but Dortmund were also on the roster when they lost 2-1 at home.

Jürgen Grabowski, a legendary star of Frankfurt and the German national team in the 1970s, claims that he is one of the best wingers in the club's history, and Ditmar Mann claims from the commentator's chair: "Kostic is one of the best stars in the world in his role."

Eintracht shone as a very attractive team to watch, introduced the third best attack in the league after Bayern and Dortmund, and fought until the last minute for a ticket to the Champions League, which they missed in favor of Wolfsburg on a point tip.

Quite ironically, it was the Wolves coach Glasner who was appointed to succeed Hooter who replaced Marco Rosa at Mönchengladbach, but the change was not dramatic for Kostic because the method of play remained similar.

Frankfurt's results are less good, but the Serbian continues to be the flag bearer with three goals and seven assists so far, and also excelled with three assists in the Europa League where Eintracht finished at the top of its home.

Corona and the flu have ruined the start of 2022 for him, but now he is back in shape at just the right time, as Bayern Munich are coming to visit.

He was interested in Kostich as early as January.

Conte will be Bayern's savior?

The Bavarians are on the verge of a real crisis when it comes to defensive ability.

Manuel Neuer underwent knee surgery, Nicklas Zola has already signed for Dortmund ahead of next season, Dayo Opmecano is in shocking shape, and the team is not functioning in the face of quick attacks.

She was defeated 4: 2 in Bochum, came out with a lot of luck with a 1: 1 draw against Salzburg in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and looked very fragile at the back even against the table lock Groiter Porat.

Meeting Kostic is the last thing Naglesman needs right now, and the Serb is ready to beat his beloved rival for the fourth time as well.

At least Bayern can rejoice that this may be the last meeting, that his contract expires in a year, and Frankfurt will have to sell him.

Not sure if Lazio will woo the Serb again this summer, but even so it is not really clear what Maurizio Sari intended to do with him in his 3-3-4 formation.

It would be better for Kostic to join a coach who plays with clear wingers, and Antonio Conte's Tottenham is suitable for him.

The Italian coach was already interested in him in January, and the deal could be launched in June, hoping everyone can spell the address.

2022 will be an interesting year for Kostic, who has already qualified with his team for the World Cup as a critical car player, even if in his homeland he is not always valued.

"I have not played for the Red Star or the Partisan, so criticizing me will always be tougher if something goes wrong, but it only gives me motivation to continue to succeed," he once claimed in Serbia.

No matter how you look at it, he is very underrated outside of Germany, but in the Bundesliga he is a real star - and Bayern know this well in the flesh.

Will she be defeated again on Saturday?
