Although lost, ESC Dorfen can live with the result.
Königsbrunn/Dorfen – After four victories, the winning streak came to an end.
ESC Dorfen did not go home from Königsbrunn empty-handed on Sunday evening.
With 3:4 (0:1, 3:2, 0:0; 0:1) goals after extra time, the ice pirates had to admit defeat to the penguins - but it was also a point.
With a smaller band, the ice pirates had to compete with the penguins in the second leg.
Defender Maximilian Huber (injured), Florian Hartl, Maximilian Steiner (both with the U20s) and Dario Braun (ill) were absent.
There were nine attackers and five defenders.
"Then Gasper Susanj has to work double shifts in defense," said ESC ice hockey boss Manfred Detterbeck.
"For Königsbrunn it's about everything, they'll push hard," was his assessment.
The hosts stormed the ESC goal at full throttle, in which Luca Endres again put in a strong performance.
"But the game wasn't as one-sided as in Dorfen," said Detterbeck at the first break.
He saw good chances from Sandro Schroepfer, Urban Sodja and Florian Fischer.
The penalty times of the ESC were just a bit too much.
But even a double shortfall was survived unscathed.
It happened when the pugilists Linus Voit (Königsbrunn) and Erik Walter (Dorfen) and his teammate Benedikt Dietrich had to leave for a gang check.
Gustav Veisert scored the 1-0 in Koenigsbrunn.
Dorfen had twice as many as Königsbrunn with eight penalty minutes before the first break, but that should change dramatically after the restart.
The penguins often tangled with referee Michael Fischer.
"Luckily for us," Detterbeck had to admit.
But Dominik Zimmermann scored to make it 2-0 just before halftime in this section of the game.
Then the ice pirates became more dominant, but still had to swallow the 0:3 through Philipp Sander with one man more.
However, Tomas Vrba turned the majority into the first goal.
It continued according to the same pattern: If a player from Dorfen received a penalty time, Königsbrunn received twice as much.
Lukas Kirsch scored the first goal in a four-on-four game, and again complete, Susanj scored the 3:3 break with a massive hammer.
There were no more goals or penalties, but there were definitely chances in an open exchange of blows on both sides.
Overtime lasted 98 seconds, then David Farny scored to make it 4:3 for Königsbrunn.
