The NFL is coming to Germany for the first time this year.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers play in the Allianz Arena in Munich - but without superstar Tom Brady.

Munich – The home team for the first NFL game in Germany has been determined.

It was only shortly before the Super Bowl a few weeks ago that it was announced that Munich and the Allianz Arena* were allowed to host the historic game.

Now some American football fans in this country finally have certainty as to who they can cheer for in the FC Bayern stadium this fall.

The two-time Superbowl winners Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been confirmed for the NFL premiere in Germany.

The Bucs celebrated the Super Bowl in their own stadium just over a year ago.

However, the Florida franchise will be without quarterback superstar Tom Brady, who has announced his retirement, for the coming season.

"We look forward to the first NFL game of the regular season in Munich as part of the International Series," Buccaneers Co-Chairman Joel Glazer said Monday.

"This historic game will play a critical role in the NFL's efforts to expand its international presence while also allowing us to speak directly to NFL fans in Germany."

The exact date of the game and Tampa Bay opponents will be announced at a later date when the 2022 schedule is officially announced.

"We're thrilled to have a recent Super Bowl champion in Munich in the Buccaneers and thank them for making sure it's a memorable start to our game series in Germany," said NFL Europe boss Brett gosper

The Munich game will be one of five international games hosted by the NFL this year.

In addition to the game in Germany, there will be three matches in Great Britain and one in Mexico.

The Arizona Cardinals will play in Mexico City, while the Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers have been nominated for the three London games.

For the Packers it is the premiere in the British capital, the team around NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers was so far the only one of the 32 teams that has never competed in London.

In the next four years, four main round games of the best football league in the world are to be played in Frankfurt and Munich.

The NFL announced last fall that it wanted to play football games in Germany in addition to London, thus paying tribute to the growing interest in the league.

In December, the league also announced that the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers would be able to expand their marketing activities to Germany in the future.

The rights initially apply for at least five years.
