Franck Ribéry, the former star of FC Bayern, has apparently been involved in an accident, as his club announced on Monday.

Salerno – Former Bayern professional Franck Ribéry has been playing in Italy since last summer, more precisely with the first division side US Salernitana.

On Monday, the bottom of the table in Serie A* announced that the 38-year-old had suffered a slight concussion in a car accident in his new home.

The traffic accident happened on Monday night in Paestum, near the southern Italian city of Salerno.

However, the former Munich Ribéry was not at the wheel during the accident.

As his club announced in a statement, the Frenchman will now have to spend a few days off.

“In a car accident, player Franck Ribéry, who was not behind the wheel, suffered a minor head injury.

The player will take a few days off as a precaution," US Salernitana said.

Ribéry apparently crashed into a traffic light mast almost 40 kilometers from Salerno as a passenger, as reported by the Italian newspaper

.

The offensive player was therefore transported to the hospital, where he was then discharged "with a slight head injury".

Ribéry himself has not yet commented on the car accident.

On Sunday, the Frenchman shared a photo of himself on a seaside terrace on Instagram.

However, his last post was edited after the accident on Monday morning.

Next to the photo is now: "Okay.

A Sunday in Salerno.” Ribéry also sends several emojis, including prayer-shaped palms and a heart.

The ex-professional of FC Bayern was lucky in misfortune.

Ribéry is fighting against relegation with Salernitana as bottom of the table in Serie A, the gap to safety is ten points with two games in the hindquarters.

A long-term absence of the Frenchman would hit the promoted team from the port city south-east of Naples hard.

Ribéry is still waiting for his first goal after 16 games, but he has already registered two assists and leads the Campanians as captain.

On Friday, Salernitana is a guest in Milan at champions Inter.

Ribéry scored 124 goals in 425 games for Bayern between 2007 and 2019.

The dribbling artist has been a crowd favorite in Munich for over a decade and has celebrated 23 titles with Bayern.
