Bagatskis went on to say, "I talked to some people from Russia, and they criticized the Latvians who come out against them. I replied, 'You are attacking another country, shelling entire cities and killing innocent people, and we are the ones who should apologize?'

Bagatskis has coached three different teams in Ukraine, and since 2019 he has been coaching the national team.
