Winter Paralympics will be held in the Chinese capital from March 4th to 13th.

With 137 gold medals, Germany is number one in the all-time medal table at the Winter Paralympics.
But that's shaky in Beijing, because Norway is 136. The USA, in third place with 111 gold medals, are unlikely to overtake Germany this time.

Germany finished fifth in the medal table four years ago in Pyeongchang.
That seems utopian this time.

Official medals are awarded in six sports in China: alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon, snowboarding, para-hockey and wheelchair curling.
Germany failed to qualify in both team sports.

Germany are missing the winners of ten of the 18 individual gold medals in Pyeongchang this time.
Andrea Eskau (5) and Clara Klug (2) are not there for health reasons, Anna Schaffelhuber (3) has retired.
The 32-year-old Andrea Rothfuss, who won five of the other eight medals at the time, would have been satisfied with a podium result in her fifth game against significantly stronger competition this time.

For the 14th time in a row, in both summer and winter, Karl Quade is Germany's Chef de Mission at the Paralympics.
The vice president of competitive sports in the DBS also took part in the games three times as a sitting volleyball player and won gold in 1988 in Seoul.

Only 17 German athletes are at the start in Beijing.
Due to illnesses and injuries, the DBS was not even able to fill the 24 slots it had fought for.
But all athletes have multiple starts.
The alpine usually five in slalom, giant slalom, super-G, the downhill and the combination.
The Nordic athletes usually start several times in cross-country skiing and biathlon.

The German delegation in China comprises a total of 60 people.
The athletes and five guides for visually impaired athletes are joined by doctors, physios and supervisors, trainers and officials as well as the media team.

In the past few days, this has been the current number of prospective athletes who want to participate.
They should come from 50 nations.
Russia and Belarus, who start as neutral athletes and do not appear in the medal table, were still included.
