Swimming: A new Israeli record in the 50m breaststroke for Anastasia Gorbanko Israel today

Already in the qualifiers for the Golden Tour competition in Marseille, Israel's senior swimmer improved the previous record by 22 hundredths and set it at 31.11 seconds.


The Golden Tour competition in Marseille opened today (Friday) with the participation of the Israeli team, for which this is the first competition for 2022.

Already in her first leap into the water, Anastasia Gurbanko broke the Israeli record in 50 breaststroke, setting a time of 31.11 seconds, an improvement of 22 hundredths to a record from last year's European Championships in Budapest.

The world champion advanced from third place to the final to be held tonight. 

Shortly afterwards, Gorbanko qualified, for her first competition since enlisting in the IDF, also for the 100-meter backstroke final from third place, with a result of 1: 00.95 minutes.

In the 50 breaststroke for men, Chris Pitchugin qualified for the final from fourth place, with 28.20 seconds.

Meron Heruti qualified for the 50 freestyle final from seventh place with 23.08 seconds.  

 In the men's 100 backstroke, David Grechik (56.62 seconds) and Yaakov Tomarkin (56.70 seconds) advanced to the second final from 11th and 13th places, respectively.

In the summary of the morning of the first competitions, Israel counts four finals and two more second finals.
