Alpine skiing: feat for Romane Miradoli, winner of the Lenzerheide Super G

2022-03-05T11:32:03.251Z

The 27-year-old Haut-Savoyarde signed her first success in the World Cup this Saturday morning, ahead of Shiffrin and Gut-Berhami.

A Frenchwoman victorious in the World Cup, in a speed test, this had not happened since 2005 and the success of Ingrid Jacquemod in the descent of Santa Caterina.

And in Super G?

Since 2004 and Carole Montillet in Haus im Ennstal.

This is to say the value of the performance of Romane Miradoli, 27, who won the super-G of Lenzerheide, Switzerland this Saturday morning.

Victory all the more remarkable as it is the first World Cup victory for the skier from Flaine, a resort in Haute-Savoie.

And victory further enhanced by the fact that Miradoli beat champions such as the American Mikaela Shiffrin (38 hundredths) and Lara Gut-Behrami (88 hundredths), the Swiss who was skiing at home.

"The race of his life!"

It is therefore a question of a splendid morning from all points of view for French women's skiing this Saturday in the very chic resort of Graubünden.

Miradoli, who had never done better than 5th in the World Cup, perfectly negotiated the tricky course which sent many competitors to fault, such as Puchner, Tippler, Curtoni and Robinson in particular.

Behind the Frenchwoman, Shiffrin got up after a disastrous Olympic Games - zero medals in six races, three off the track.

Her 11th podium of the winter allows her to take a 67-point lead in the general classification over her Slovak rival Petra Vlhova, only 18th on Saturday.

Under Federer's eyes

With her bib number 8, Miradoli, who had seriously injured her left knee in December 2020, combined aggressiveness and technical mastery, despite some fears, to sign a historic success for women's tricolor speed skiing.

The other French women had varied fortunes: Tessa Worley took 6th place, Laura Gauché 9th, Tifany Roux 25th.

Left disappointed with the Winter Olympics in Beijing, where she gave up in combined and only took 11th place in super-G and 13th in downhill, the Haut-Savoyarde confirms her potential.

All under the eyes of Roger Federer, the Swiss present in the finish area as a spectator.

The skiers continue on Sunday with a giant in the Graubünden resort.
