A former FC Bayern professional behaved remarkably quiet during the Ukraine war, even though he is the country's record player.

An ex-teammate now confronted him.

Munich – Since the beginning of Russia's attack on Ukraine*, sport has also been affected by the military conflict.

Ukrainian soccer players and a biathlete* died at the front, while Russian clubs and associations were banned from many sports.

Most of the athletes from Ukraine clearly support their own people, who are now being bombed by the Russian army on a daily basis.

A former Ukrainian professional from FC Bayern* is currently between the fronts – and has now been publicly questioned.

Ukraine conflict: Ex-FC Bayern player Anatoly Tymoshchuk is silent on Russia's attack

Many Ukrainian players made clear statements about the war in their homeland, with legendary striker Andriy Shevchenko calling Vladimir Putin a "murderer".

Ironically, the record national player Anatoly Tymoschtschuk, who played a total of four years at FC Bayern*, has so far refrained from making a statement about the situation in his home country.

The treble winner from 2013 has been under contract as an assistant coach at top Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg* since March 2017, for which he spent two and a half years.

  • Anatoly Tymoshchuk

  • Born: March 30, 1979 (42 years), Lutsk, Volyn region

  • Nationality: Ukrainian (144 caps/4 goals)

  • Former clubs: Volyn Lutsk, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St. Petersburg, FC Bayern Munich, Kairat Almaty

Unlike many compatriots, players and coaches of other nationalities, Tymoshchuk is sticking to his job at the Russian professional club and has so far avoided taking a public position.

Others of his ex-national team colleagues, such as long-time Bundesliga striker Andreij Voronin - until recently Sandro Schwarz's assistant coach at Dynamo Moscow - have already left the country.

This circumstance caused a lack of understanding among his former teammate from the national team* Yevgen Levchenko, who played professionally in the Netherlands and Australia as well as in Russia.

Levchenko then addressed the three-time Ukrainian Footballer of the Year in an open message about his silence.

Ukraine conflict: Former national team colleague criticizes Tymoshchuk - "Are you just quiet now?"

“We played together for the same team, wore that jersey with pride, sang the anthem, won and lost.

are you just quiet now

Tolya, how will you live with that?” the 44-year-old wrote in the direction of his former teammate.

Levchenko, who in addition to his job as an expert also acts as chairman of the Dutch players' union, has already appeared on Instagram at peace demonstrations.

Tymoshchuk, on the other hand, has not yet received a signal.

The 144-time Ukrainian national player came to Munich in the summer of 2009 for eleven million euros.

In 2008 he lifted the UEFA Cup with Zenit, beating Bayern 1-1, 4-0 in the semi-finals.

All in all, Tymoschtschuk played 132 competitive games for FC Bayern up to the summer of 2013, and his biggest success was winning the 2013 Champions League*.

In contrast, his dubious discretion during the darkest days of his native country is arguably the greatest defeat of his career.
