Roger Federer is hoping for a comeback this summer.
"You can see I can move normally again," reported the tennis superstar.
“I still have to wait a bit with running.
I hope I can increase that more and more over the next few months and I hope I can make a comeback in the middle or at the end of the year," the 40-year-old Swiss told ZDF.
Federer watched the alpine ski race in Lenzerheide, in the immediate vicinity of his home, and described himself as a "huge ski fan".
The longtime number one in the world had his right knee operated on for the third time in August.
Most recently, he was on the tennis court in a match in the quarter-finals in Wimbledon in July 2021.
“It's been a difficult time the last few months.
I was on crutches for two months, I'm back on my feet now," said Federer, describing his state of health.
Federer has won 20 Grand Slam tournaments.
The statistics are now led by the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who conquered title number 21 at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
First in the world rankings is currently the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
The 26-year-old replaced Serbian Novak Djoković as number one despite his semi-final exit at the ATP tournament in Acapulco.
The 20-time Grand Slam winner had led the world rankings for a total of 361 weeks, around seven years, setting a record.
Behind the two top players in third position is Olympic champion Alexander Zverev from Hamburg, who was disqualified in Acapulco as the defending champion because of a freak out.
