The Clermont conquest at the rendezvous

“No scrum no win”.

ASM Clermont followed this well-known motto in the world of football to the letter to bend the LOU (25-16).

Able to rely on an authoritative front eight, Clermont scored his first two tries in force, thanks to Tomas Lavanini (35th) then Etienne Fourcade (46th), after balls carried.

The Auvergnats also earned three melee penalties thanks to devastating pushes from their forward packages.

Morgan Parra, Eternal Leader of Men

With nearly 300 games in the yellow jersey, Morgan Parra is a real monument in Clermont and continues to be essential, despite rumors of leaving at the end of the season.

Facing the Lou, the scrum half once again distinguished himself by raising his voice to remobilize his troops in hot moments and especially during the break, as shown by the on-board cameras of Canal +.

Precise in his kicking game (3/4, 10 points), the ASM striker allowed his partners to go back to the scoreboard in the “money time”, passing a penalty in the 77th minute.

With his remarkable scores in his last weeks, Morgan Parra will inevitably be one of the essential links for Jono Gibbes and his staff on the road to the final stages.

ASM wins a clash that should not be lost

Clermont remains alive in the race for the final stages.

At the end of a meeting rich in suspense and while Lou was still leading in the score four minutes from time, the Auvergnats managed to win and thus get closer to the leading pack.

Clermont is now eighth (44 points), passes the Stade Français and the Paloise Section, and comes back to six points from the Stade Rochelais, provisional sixth.

Sure of their strengths at the Michelin where they have not lost since September, the Jaunards will now have to sublimate out of their bases if they want to hope to finish in the six.

FLOPS

The Lou misses the mark to sit on the leader's chair

The day had started off perfectly for Pierre Mignoni and his men.

Thanks to the surprise defeat of Union Bordeaux-Bègles at home against Section Paloise (16-23) and Montpellier's loss to Castres (25-9), Lou had the opportunity to take the lead in the Top 14. if successful against ASM.

Long in the game thanks to an iron defense which was illustrated by several scratches on the ground in its 22 meters to put an end to the opposing highlights and in front of the score until the last moments, the Rhodaniens did not manage to capitalize.

After a nightmarish end to the match (see below), they therefore leave "fanny" of their trip and remain stuck in third place (54 points), three units behind the Bordeaux-Bèglais leader.

Léo Berdeu finds himself in a hole and costs Lou dearly

The Lou opener was flawless for 79 minutes and it would have taken one more to allow his partners to afford a defensive bonus point in Auvergne soil.

At the very end of the match, Léo Berdeu completely lost his way by failing to receive a game at the foot of Cheikh Tiberghien just in front of his in-goal.

Jean-Pascal Barraque, who followed well, did not hesitate to flatten just behind and definitively ensure the success of the ASM.

A cruel outcome for the Lyonnais, who undoubtedly deserved at least the defensive bonus and for Léo Berdeu who will have to quickly recover from his fatal error.
