The arrest occurred during the month of last February, after the basketball player belonging to the Yekaterinburg team landed on a flight from New York.
A probing dog drew the attention of customs officers to the possible presence of drugs in the actress' honor.
A drug smuggling department employee checked her boarding bag and found a vaporizer with a liquid identified as cannabis oil.
The 31-year-old Griner, who plays for Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA and has many career accomplishments, has not taken part in any Yekaterinburg game during February, having played consistently averaging 13.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
If convicted, the basketball player could face up to a maximum of 10 years in prison.
