Ice hockey Oberliga team EC Peiting secured important points in the fight for sixth place on Sunday.

But the initial phase in Landsberg was bumpy - as were the final minutes.

Peiting

– After Friday's bankruptcy it was clear: EC Peiting's ice hockey players have to deliver on Sunday in order to be able to place themselves as best as possible for the upcoming play-offs.

And the Oberliga delivered, won 5:3.

But the game "started off extremely badly," admitted ECP trainer Anton Saal.

Although Shane Heffernan had the first chance for the ECP on the racket after just 15 seconds, Landsberg's goalie Michael Güßbacher was wide awake.

Landsberg immediately counterattacked, a shot by Patrik Rypar was deflected by his teammate Nicolas Strodel to make it 1-0 for the home side.

The ECP then allowed themselves a few uncertainties in defense, Landsberg marked a few bad passes, it went back and forth hectically.

When Mika Reuter fell in front of the Peitinger goal, the hosts demanded a penalty – but the referees allowed play to continue and the ECP countered swiftly.

A cross pass from Lukas Gohlke bounced off a Landsberger bat to make it 1-1.

EC Peiting: Magg instead of Hechenrieder in goal

In the second third, the people from Peiting managed to bring more calm to the ice and take control of the game.

Things got a little clearer for ECP goalie Andreas Magg – he guarded the Peitinger goal after Florian Hechenrieder injured his back against Riessersee on Friday.

Things went better and better for Peiting going forward, and there were a few chances.

Two for Andreas Feuerecker alone, when the Landsbergers had traded two two-minute penalties.

But the people from Peiting could not use the double advantage on the ice.

Captain Feuerecker's first shot was deflected, the second went wide.

There were a few good opportunities for the guests in the next few minutes.

But for a long time they failed to extend their lead.

An 18-year-old finally set it up: Louis Postel scored the 3rd:

1 - and made sure that the people from Peiting made something countable out of their superiority.

"That was good for us," admitted Saal.

Finally, Peiting becomes “comfortable” again

At the beginning of the last third, the next Peitingen talent took center stage.

The 20-year-old Maximilian Söll made it 4:1 with a flick from the blue line – with all the saves that HCL goalie Güßbacher had previously shown, he didn't look good in this scene.

The people in front also made a mistake shortly afterwards, allowing the people from Peiting to combine happily - Marco Habermann increased the power play to 5:1.

The two Landsberg goals that followed were as insignificant as they were unnecessary.

"We became more comfortable and weren't so goal-oriented anymore," said Saal about the two goals conceded shortly before the end.

But the cushion was thick enough, there was no more pressure.

At least not in this game.

Looking at the table, it's still exciting.

Höchstadt's Sunday game was cancelled, Riessersee won 3-1 against Füssen.

This means that Peiting is eighth in the exciting final sprint.
