Erding/Dorfen

– It's served.

Tonight at 8 p.m. the last ice hockey derby of this Bayernliga season between the Erding Gladiators and ESC Dorfen will take place in the Stadtwerke Erding Arena.

For the hosts it is also the last game of the season, while the Ice Pirates still have three catch-up games to play.

"We want to stay top of the table," Erding's coach Thomas Vogl had recently announced like a mantra.

And now his team is on the verge of a win.

In addition to the 7:5 derby victory in Dorfen on Friday, important steps were also the 4:3 after extra time against Königsbrunn - after a 0:3 deficit.

Actually, the Erdingers could have pulled the game over to their side in the first third, as they missed the empty goal three times.

Because, as Coach Vogl put it, “they played Tschippi-Tschappi.

I pass it on to them, they pass it on to them, and there was no consequence when the goal was empty”.

In the second third "we weren't there, that was a disaster", criticized the coach.

"We begged that we get a goal." Before that he had already mixed up the rows diligently, after the 0: 3 in the last third he had to switch to two rows and play "hooray ice hockey", which he particularly liked felt sorry for young players who then had to sit down.

But the fact that his troupe then turned the game around, "they did an excellent job".

The only ones who can still challenge the Erdingers for first place are the Devils from Ulm, who have played three games less and saved their chance with the 6:5 win against Dorfen - after being 3:5 behind up to the 56th minute to have.

For the ice pirates, victory was within reach.

But in the end the old ice hockey truism applied (again): "You can't win a game in the penalty box." ESC conceded the last three goals conceded outnumbered, before the Devils had already scored two power play goals.

As a reminder: In the 5:7 against Erding, the ice pirates were outnumbered four times.

Franz Steer has to tinker.

However, the Dorfeners were badly weakened at the Devils, in the game against Erding Philipp Schumann, Lukas Kirsch, Benedikt Dietrich and Florian Fischer were injured, goalkeeper Luca Endres had received a game penalty after the final siren and was not allowed to play in Ulm.

Coach Franz Steer had special praise for the injured Schuhmann, who had his girlfriend drive him to Neu-Ulm to at least give his comrades mental support.

Steer was satisfied with his team's performance, but he was pissed about the lack of discipline in the final phase - and also after the game.

Christoph Lönnig and Sandro Schroepfer both got game penalties and will miss today.

Of course, that makes it a lot harder for the Ice Pirates, because the Gladiators can probably compete with the best line-up and want to do everything possible to say goodbye to the season with a win from the home crowd today.

Erding's gang leader sent a clear declaration of war on the ice pirates.

"We'll go full throttle with three rows and play power ice hockey," announced Vogl.

"And we definitely want to end the season with a great derby win."
