During his career, the native of Wiesbaden only played for FV Bebrich 02 and Eintracht Frankfurt.

In his 15 years as a player with the SGE, he won the 1980 UEFA Cup and in 1974 the DFB Cup*.

He made 441 appearances for the Bundesliga side as a right winger and later as a playmaker, scoring 109 goals.

He also played 45 times in the DFB Cup, scoring 19 more goals.

In 40 appearances in Europe, he contributed a further nine goals.

He played a total of 44 international matches, winning two titles for Germany*.

He did not play at the 1966 World Cup in England and watched his team lose the final in dramatic fashion.

He was also involved in the 1970 World Cup, but the DFB* team lost 3-4 in the semifinals in the so-called game of the century against Italy.

Four years later he was part of the 1974 World Cup team that defeated the Netherlands 2-1 Munich.

Two years earlier he became European champion in Belgium when Germany beat the Soviet Union 3-0 in the final.

Shortly after winning the UEFA Cup in 1980, Grabowski had to end his active career.

The reason for this was a serious injury caused by a sliding tackle by Lothar Matthäus*, who was young at the time.

, the cause of death is multiple organ failure.

In a fall in the bathroom, he is said to have broken his femur, for which he was ultimately admitted.
