From the leader to the problem child and back.

Quirin Moll has returned to 1860 after a weak first half of the season.

Our interview with the lion leader.

One of the reasons for the furious lion run is the functioning axle, which has shared responsibility since the end of Mölders.

Right in the middle: Quirin Moll, the newly strengthened hinge player in the new 4-1-4-1 system.

In the first half of the season, the Dachau player was one of the problem children due to his performance, but he is now a support again, a guarantee of stability.

Our interview with the 31-year-old defensive veteran.

Impressive videos are circulating on the Internet that show you doing pull-ups.

Where is your personal record?

Minor:

pull-ups?

Yes, I can do some, but I don't count them, so there's no specific record.

They're just fun for me.

As with Leon Goretzka, is it a side effect of the Corona virus that you have trained in this way?

Moll:

No, I've actually been doing something extra for years - because it's simply good for me.

For me, that's a good balance.

Was your focus too much on fitness after your injury?

Coach Michael Köllner described your game after the first half of the season as "robot-like".

Moll:

That was brought to my attention and I also spoke to him.

I was in the weight room a lot, but I also ran enough.

I haven't changed my program.

I've always been someone who does more, but I've always stayed flexible.

Köllner also spoke of "terrifying achievements".

Did that strike you or rather spur you on?

Moll:

I noticed it, but it didn't hit me.

I know what I can do, when I'm playing well or badly.

I'm always open to constructive criticism, but I don't need such statements as an incentive.

Of course, that wasn't a special first half of the season for me, but that's a long time in the past.

I know that if you put in hard work every day, you get it back.

Of course, that wasn't a special first half of the season for me, but that's a long time in the past.

Quirin Moll on Köllner's clear criticism after a "frightening" first half of the season.

You've been a fixture in the team for a couple of games, currently as a solo six in a 4-1-4-1.

A responsible task - and a sign that the coach still trusts you?

Moll:

It's not like he let me down.

We were always in touch anyway.

He knows what I'm capable of – and it's now also the position where I feel at home.

After the bankruptcies against Türkgücü and Halle, four victories followed in 1860.

What was the initial spark for this series?

Moll:

It was important that we got over the defeats quickly.

There is neither this one explanation nor was there a specific debate.

It's all the better that we got back on track straight away - and with several wins in a row.

What does leading player Quirin Moll say about the prospects for the rest of the season?

Moll:

It may sound boring, but I'm the type of person who really just looks from game to game.

Calculating does nothing.

In the end it just depends on how we design our own games.

When would be the ideal time for you to verbally switch to an attack?

Moll:

Good question.

I understand that this is expected of us, but it doesn't help us.

The next games will be difficult enough - we'll see where the journey goes.

The funny thing is: everyone knows that 1860 always wants to go up.

Nevertheless, the team is better off when nobody talks about it.

Can you explain this simple psychological trick from the player's point of view?

Moll:

(laughs)

Personally, I'm a friend of saying where you want to go.

These aren't dreams.

Nevertheless, we would do well to remain humble, especially after the course of the last few weeks.

You can see how different the games are in this league.

Personally, I've never made a secret of my goals - I didn't just switch to the 3rd division, but because I want to get promoted with 1860.

The club belongs high, that's no secret.

Who are your favorites for the hot phase of the promotion battle?

Moll:

Difficult to say.

Everyone up there has shown that they have quality.

Nevertheless, the season will be decided now, in the last two months - and then you just have to be there.

There's no favorite for me, except maybe Magdeburg.

Back to your life as a model athlete.

They also avoid wheat, sugar and dairy products.

Where does health awareness end and asceticism begin?

Moll:

What I do is not a type of diet, but a way of life.

I feel good with it, my body too - that's the main thing.

I've eaten pasta on holiday - or drank a glass of wine.

But chocolate or something like that doesn't excite me at all.

Fitness freak Quirin Moll on small sins.

Don't you ever sin?

Moll:

Well, I've eaten pasta on vacation - or drank a glass of wine.

But chocolate or something like that doesn't excite me at all.

Is fitness striving an addiction?

Moll:

You could see it that way – if someone can't do anything with it.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who is still delivering top performances at the age of 37, is said to be similarly hard on himself.

Is that what drives you too?

At 31, how many years do you have left in the tank?

Moll:

I don't feel like I'm 31 at all. That sounds old in football, but physically I feel fitter than five years ago.

From that point of view I still have a lot to do.

So you would also say: 37 – so what?

Moll:

Yes, logically, why not?

At 1860, her contract was extended to 2023 while in rehab.

Did the player benefit more or the club?

Moll:

Both sides, I would say.

It was a sign of respect for me – but of course I also accommodated the club.

I'm glad it turned out that way, because I think it suits both sides.

Her friend Mario Götze has just declared that he still has the champions league on his plate.

What's on your flag?

Moll:

I've known about Mario for a long time, but of course: I don't have quite as ambitious things on it.

I think it's more from season to season.

Would a promotion with 1860 have a similar meaning for you?

Moll:

You can't compare it, but it would definitely be a goal that I set myself when I came back home.

If the worst comes to the worst, would a glass of sparkling wine be conceivable?

Moll:

If it comes to that, that could be one of the exceptions that can be talked about
