A basketball player from Ukraine's youth teams landed in Israel this weekend with his mother after fleeing the war in his country.
The player will be absorbed into the youth department of Maccabi Ashdod, which will take care of all his needs and help him adapt to Israel.
Over the past week, a connection has been established between the 15-year-old player's coach and Pini Gershon, the professional manager of the Israeli and Ukrainian youth teams, who has updated that the boy is coming with his people to Ashdod, where his aunt lives.
Gershon immediately contacted Nati Cohen, the professional director of the youth department of Maccabi Ashdod, who expressed his desire to absorb the player.
The one who helped mediate between the club and the boy and his family is the player Ron Gutman who until recently played in the Ukrainian league and speaks the language well.
"We as the Maccabi Ashdod club consider it a very great privilege," Cohen tells Israel Today.
"It's something big, valuable, human of the first degree and we will take care of everything during his stay in Israel. Already at the beginning of the week we will take care of his basketball shoes and clothes so that he can train with our group of boys.
"We would like to thank Grundman & Co., an importer of Under Armor in Israel, for donating basketball shoes. At this stage, it is most important to keep the child in a routine and framework of basketball that he loves so much during the difficult time he and his family are going through."
