Sisters Dina and Arina Avrina are remembered in Israel as those who lost to Linoy Ashram in the battle for the gold at the Tokyo Olympics, and then embarked on a campaign of slander and slander against the Israeli.
But as of yesterday (Friday) they have become controversial figures all over the world, following a rally in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
The artistic gymnasts were the two leading athletes from a delegation of athletes who participated in the rally, expressing sympathy and support for the war in Ukraine.
Documentation from the rally shows Dina Avrina wearing the silver medal from the Tokyo Olympics, and she and her twin sister are proud of the Z mark on the chest - which became the hallmark of the Russian army in the war.
The delegation of athletes who took the stage called for support for Putin, and the two were heard saying, among other things: "For a world in which all the Nazis will be annihilated! For Russia! For the president!".
