LeBron James is approaching in huge strides towards another historic record that will establish his status as one of the greatest players in history.

After overtaking Karl Malone and climbing to second place on the all-time scoring list in the regular season, it's clearly only a matter of time before the 37-year-old star overtakes Karim Abdul Jabbar and rises to first place.

LeBron now has 36,947 career points, Karim stands at 38,387, and the detour could happen fairly quickly: If LeBron maintains an average of 30 points per game in the 11 games left for the Lakers, he will finish the season 1,110 points away from Karim.

If so, computers in the United States, to reach the peak he will need 37 games if he averages 30 points next season, and 45 games with an average of 25 points (his average last season).

And of course, as expected, as happens almost every time LeBron breaks or comes close to breaking a historic record, the debate over its place in the pages of history rekindles, and the comparison to Jordan pops up again.

LeBron has a not-so-bad case when looking at dry statistics: he is ranked second all-time in regular-season points, third in field baskets, 4 on free throws, 8 on assists and 10 on steals.

When it comes to the playoffs, his statistical control is absolute: he is ranked first in points, field goals, free throws, steals and minutes, second in assists and threes, and third in the number of appearances in final series (10).

"In the debate over whether he is the greatest player of all time, LeBron will always have the ultimate argument: no player has been around for as long as he has," claims Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

"As the years go by it becomes increasingly clear that LeBron's legacy and resume will not be based solely on his number of championships. He has four championships, and it is very unlikely that he will equal or pass Jordan's six championships. But he has, as mentioned, a very convincing argument - throughout For a time, there was no player like LeBron. "

Windhorst claims that "a lot of LeBron's 10 appearances in the final are used to beat him, because he lost six finals, but the truth is that this figure mainly plays in his favor. "His business card, and that's what sets him apart from other players in the past. LeBron may still convince the NBA fans that he deserves to be at the top of the mountain, but it's out of his control. But he certainly continues to play for his legacy. That's all he has left."

On the other hand, there are of course also those who claim that this is still blasphemy, and that LeBron is not even close to Jordan.

"Objectively, you can not say that LeBron is bigger than Jordan," claims Fox Network commentator Chris Brosard.

"Elaborate statistics are not enough when it comes to the GOAT debate, in any sport. Historically large is measured by the ability of a particular player at his peak, and bottom line Jordan has done more in 13 healthy seasons than Melbourne in 17 seasons. Jordan has 6 championships "In 7 years, LeBron 4 in 8. That's the end of it."
