Ferrari already has the renewal of Carlos Sainz ready.
The man from Madrid signed his first contract with the most universal team in car racing one morning in May two years ago, in the midst of a pandemic.
"I had just gotten up, I was at home, in my pajamas, and my father told me to wake up, that he had to sign for Ferrari," Sainz explains in the official World Cup podcast.
Almost two years after that, the Spaniard will stamp his signature in the coming days on the renewal of his agreement with
the Scuderia
, which will now expire in 2024, the same expiration date that appears in the agreement of Charles Leclerc, his workshop neighbor .
At 27 years old, Sainz certified this Sunday in Bahrain, at the opening round of the new Formula 1 World Championship, the first double of the Italian structure in almost three years.
Leclerc's incontestable victory was combined with the trigger that came to Red Bull in the last three laps, in which he lost the cars of Max Verstappen and Checho Pérez, when the Dutchman and the Mexican were running second and fourth, respectively.
Despite equaling his best result in F1, the son of the two-time world rally champion (1990 and 1992) claimed to have gone through one of the worst weekends since he wore red – "I never found the pace I expected and I I had a bad time from the first rehearsal”, he said –, and anticipated that everything is ready to close the extension of his relationship with the manufacturer from Maranello, which will increase the base salary he had until now, of around six million euros.

Red Bull ran dry at the Bahrain GP
“I think we are close, very close, extremely close;
we are almost there”, replied the Spaniard, still dressed in the clothing of the
Il Cavallino Rampante
brand , at the Sakhir circuit.
Mattia Binotto, the training director who is in charge of the two main statistics – drivers and constructors – was even more forceful than the rider.
“I think we have reached an agreement;
now we simply need to transfer it to paper”, pointed out the Italian engineer, who in this way hinted that the announcement may be imminent.
