After FIFA's decisions on the transfer of players from the Ukrainian and Russian leagues, who have "the right to unilaterally suspend their employment contracts until June 30", it's UEFA's turn to go in the same direction.
European clubs already had the possibility of enlisting a player playing in Ukraine or Russia (for foreigners only), the European body decided to push its logic a little further on Monday.
Thus, the various clubs still in contention in the various European Cups this season will be authorized to make two changes in the lists of their players for the end of these competitions.
This decision directly concerns Olympique Lyonnais, opposed to West Ham in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, as well as Olympique de Marseille still in contention in the quarter-finals of the Europa League Conference with a scheduled duel against PAOK Salonika .
However, clubs have until April 1 to make changes to their player lists.
Note that women's clubs engaged in the Champions League are also affected by this decision.
It is therefore valid for Paris Saint-Germain (which travels to Munich this Tuesday in the round of 16 first leg) as well as for Olympique Lyonnais (which will challenge Juventus in Turin on March 23).
With a small difference since the women's clubs have until April 7 to validate any changes.
Temporary rules addressing the exceptional situation deriving from the war in Ukraine will allow clubs to register a maximum of two new eligible players for the remaining matches in current UEFA club competitions.
